Point being...the whistle ends the play

Granted it was an erroneous whistle...but the Lions shouldnt have even been given possession much lless a td for that.

Yes they should the new rule is whistle doesn't stop a fumble and ref umpire control the game.

Right call was made Detroit ball at spot of recovery.

Not sure if this is stated in the Hoculi rule, in the situation of the ball coming out and the ref, thinking the ground caused the fumble, blows the whistle, the opposing team is allowed the recovery if it's immediate and/or clear that the whistle didn't prevent the offense from recovering. That's what I assumed happened last night. It was obvious that Detroit would have recovered the ball, but since the whistle blew, no advance. But that's the key: the recovery has to happen almost immediately and without the whistle affecting the play.
