1. Won a super bowl
2. Become a perinnal playoff team
3. Has the all time best offense
4. A hall of fame QB
5. Had the line backing group ... Dome patrol voted as best all time
6. A season ticket waiting list
7. A consistent top national TV draw
Who would have ever thought it ....

You would have to think the world is about to end

Mills, Johnson, Swilling, and Jackson. They were dominant. We always wanted to put 19 points on the board and play not to lose. This never worked against the Montana 49ers.
My Dad was born in 1947. An 11 year old boy watching the 58 LSU team win. My first post ever on this site was about him. I posted after the 2003 NCGame. He called me out of the blue. I ALWAYS called him to talk sports. He could not contain himself and HAD to call me. For the Saints Super Bowl I had my Dad here at my home. Visited but left a Super bowl party down the road to watch with Dad. No party at our house. Just a couple pizzas a 6 pack of good beer and my wife and mother. I did not want anyone "non family" to witness what would happen if the Saints lost. It was going to be a moment of pain or ecstacy I would share with my Pops. It was a great night.
I near hijacked this thread with my memories, but it was to expand on this question. I have already asked it. There has NEVER been a better time to be a Louisiana sports fan?

The other day I found an old cassette tape and played it to see what was recorded on it. One side was most of the fourth quarter from the fourth game of the 1996 season. The Saints were playing the Cardinals. Both teams were winless but the Cardinals had an insurmountable two score lead against the Saints. The Cardinals had some running back whose season totals prior to the game were 4 carries for 4 yards but he had two 50+ yard TD carries against the Saints. Jim Henderson and Archie were doing commentary but the best commentary was coming from the drunk Yat sitting close enough to the press box to be heard.
The Saints were winless (eventually going to start the season 0-5), the announcers were talking about how much longer until Mora was fired, 35,000 fans showed up for the game, and the Saints were not executing on either side of the ball.
And still, the diehards kept the faith and supported the team that, in its 30th season, despite high hopes, looked as dysfunctional as ever.

It's been a great run with Brees & Payton.

I would replace #5 with having Rickey Jackson inducted into the HOF

I can remember being ecstatic that the Saints went 8-8 in 1979. The late 1980's, early 1990's were quite the tease as well.
This is the first time the Saints are no longer looked at as being "the Saints" in their history.
And, no, I never thought it would be such a complete and absolute turnaround.

I moved to the MS Gulf when I was 10. (1985)
Been a Saints fan ever since.
Sometimes, as I watch them play now, I have a hard time believing it's the same team.
And that makes me so proud.
