I have had this problem as well. I got 60 ft of cat5 cable from work, bought the connectors and crimping tool from radioshack and ran it under the house. Worked awesome

did the same through my attic

if you're in an apt, it may not be as feasible, but its my house, so i do what the frick i want

you don't even need crimping tools, buy the correct length from monoprice with connectors already on it

True, but the department at work that used to use it can't anymore so they have like 1,000 feet, and I just wanted to figure out how to do it.

exactly what i posted in another thread.
quote:

you could flash your new router with DD-WRT and have a the Firmware and performance that would equal that of a 600 dollar router.

you could get a cheapo linksys router and flash it and make it awesome. I've done 2 of them and the performance upgrade is ridiculous.

no problem. they make it out to be some really drawn out process but you can look up some youtube tutorials on how to do it. It really only takes about 5 minutes to do one.

Does it give you faster load times or is it more for the security and customization?

slightly but mainly security and customization. the one thing that i like is that you can adjust your routers signal strength, so if you had a bigger house you could turn up the signal to cover the whole house instead of having to bridge another and make a repeater;.
