Tried searching for earlier posting but unsuccessful
quote:

The early ones were awarded by individuals years after the games were played. These weren’t consensus polls but NCs awarded by people that had their own formula for determining champions. Some NCs were given before bowl games that Bama lost

Alabama's 12 national titles...

When you understand this, then you begin to understand why they think they won on Nov 5th

Delusion born from years back and continues to this day.

Actually, they claim 13. Has anyone else picked up that this is the number on the helmet they use for logos, memorabilia, and even the ESPN set?

Check the tape - they had #12 up to and including the BCSCG against Texas. After that they changed to 13.

I think it's a subtle reminder of their history, which is impressive by anyone's standards - but it's also a reminder of the sense of entitlement their fans have.

1941 National Championship- This is a complete joke. The AP ranked Alabama 20th in the nation with 14 teams with better records in the top 20. Once again it is the Football Thesaurus that retroactively awards it. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC that year. Mississippi State won the SEC title..yet Bama claims a National title!

ETA:

1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.

Does this have to be posted every day from now until eternity?

Also, they claim 13 now.

any claimed title pre 1936 is not legit IMO.
AP UPI BCS (and FWAA for Ole Miss and Hog fans)

Bama has 8 legit titles

The sense of entitlement runs deep and is self-perpetuating.

From the article:

1965 National Championship- The AP gave this to Bama. That year there were three teams with better records than Bama. Bama 9-1-1, Michigan St 10-1-0, Arkansas 10-1-0, Nebraska 10-1-0.

While I do agree some of Bama's NC claims are absurd I think that that particular paragraph cheapens that article. Bama's 1965 championship is legit. What the article doesn't tell you is that Nebraska, Michigan St., and Arkansas, ranked fist through third, all entered New Years Day bowl games undefeated and lost. Bama was ranked fifth as I recall and dominated Nebraska, which had seemed very powerful up to that point.

That was one of the great days in college football history. Startling upsets knocked off the big undefeated three. That was the year, btw, that 7-3 LSU defeated undefeated Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl.

In addition to the 13 championships claimed by the university, Alabama has been recognized by the NCAA as National Champions for the 1945, 1962, 1966, 1967, and 1977 college football seasons. However, those championships are not claimed by Alabama.

WoW - championships that Bama does not claim!!

The original link was an auburn fabrication that is filled with incorrect information.

Frankly, I and most Bama fans are just tired of debunking the lies.

Alabama won the national championship in 64 and 65 being ranked #1 in the AP at the end of both seasons. They then went 11-0 in 66, won their 3rd straight SEC title and beat Nebraska in their bowl. Of course Two 9-0-1 teams finished above them. I saw one guy in this thread brought this up but screw the rest of you. Why don't y'all start a thread about 66 before you bitch about something that has already been beat to death.

It's all BS anyways before around 1970 or even later. Teams were way to segragated. The best football wasn't being played by Bama or LSU alot of these early years I'd say. Wasn't Grambling putting the most players into the NFL back in the day? Didn't Bear Bryant become one of the first SEC coaching to bring in black dudes. I'd say the storyline is wrong worrying about anything before the race barrier was broken.

The past 10 Years --- LSU is the best.
