The NCAA recognizes five All-America lists:
Associated Press
American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)
Football Writers Association of America (FWAA)
Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF)
The Sporting News (TSN).
Consensus All America: must be on three of the five.
Unanimous All-America: must be on all five.
Mo Claiborne unanimous.
Tyrann Mathieu consensus (didn't make the AFCA list).
ETA: Previous Unanimous All-Americans:
Billy Cannon, 1958 and 1959
Roy Winston, 1961
Jerry Stovall, 1962
Nacho Albergamo, 1987
Glenn Dorsey, 2007
Patrick Peterson, 2010
Made 4 of the 5 lists (missed)
Sid Fournet, 1954 (TSN)
Tommy Casanova, 1969, 1970, and 1971 (TSN all 3 years)
Charles Alexander, 1977 and 1978 (AP both years)
Alan Faneca, 1997 (AFCA)
Chad Kessler, 1997 (FWAA)
Josh Reed, 2001 (AFCA)
Chad Lavalais, 2003 (AFCA)
edit: moved PP7 to unanimous selection.
ETA: Updated to include TSN, released today.
ETA: Changed "Unanimous Consensus" to just "Unanimous."

Odds are looking good.

I imagine the Thorpe award winner will be on the Sporting News first team

It is pretty comical that the Defensive Player of the Year isn't a unanimous All-American

That is awesome - hope you are going to update this. Anyway - Mo deserves this and I am happy for him.

Mo Claiborne on four of the lists, waiting on TSN to release theirs.
he's probably a shoo-in for this, we were their preseason #1.

>UNANIMOUS Consensus<

Wow, who beat out PP7 for one of the AA spots last season? That's crazy that he wasn't a unanimous pick.

quote:Hrm, I got the information from Wikipedia but checking the WCFF website, PP7 was a 1st team AA. According to another article, PP7 was Unanimous across the board:

Will Mo Claiborne be a UNANIMOUS Consensus All American?
I hate to be "that" guy - when you say "Unanimous" All American, that is, by defintion not a "consensus"(which means 3 or 4).
It is akin to the difference between cum laude, summa cum laude, and magna cum laude - (all are subsets, but each one implies something different).
A better question would have been "Will Mo Claiborne be a UNANIMOUS All American"? (because he is already a consensus)
(Sorry, like I said, I hate being "that" guy)

Especially if being "that" guy means being wrong i bet.

. If a player is named an All-American by all five organizations, he receives the "unanimous consensus" status

Nice, sucks to be "that guy"

Much as I love wikipedia, it is just one guy's opinion.
I'm not going to argue that it's "technically" incorrect, because that would be getting sillier. However, removing redundancy is universally accepted and welcomed.
Your way is akin to saying "defensive cornerback", or "offensive receiver" - sorry if my way is better.
"We would like to welcome LSU's wonderful cornerback tandem, consensus All American Tyrann Mathieu and unanimous All American Morris Claiborne!"
See?
