Deer Bayou is SO money. We have caught some very nice fish there over the years.

Dulac. It's actually good fishing. Canal lined with oyster beds and drains deer bay and bay Antoine

Cool. Deer bayou by Lake Mechant use to produce great fish but I haven't had much luck there in the last few years.

Deep canal + oysters sloping to bank + warming weather = foodchain => trout/reds. Wait for the second/third good cold front, find the above & pretty water (in the 50’s). Few days of warming (water in 60s) following the front is when you want to be there.
Tide was incoming all afternoon. Caught many of the fish in the middle of the bayou---8-10 ft, but bigger fish parallel to bank
Pink mirrolure (w/ blades), pop slightly and let sit at least 10 seconds, trout were blowing it up as it sat.
During the coldest weather fish the deeper water (bottom) slowly. The trout will stay all winter in an area that provides the above habitat---moving up and down.
Apply this throughout the marsh---Bayou Saveur ?? Bayou Decade down toward Lost Lake (esp by run outs), for ex.

I usually abandon topwater baits in the winter unless it is hot and I see a lot of bait. I will definitely give that a shot. Nothing is better than catching them on topwater.
Thanks for the tips

I used to murder the sheephead in that canal when we had our houseboat at Cocomarina. I never did much speck fishing there though.
