I know I'm late to the party here, but here are 4 of the O-line commits.

Vadal Alexander
OL
Buford, GA
Buford
6'6"
310

Derek Edinburgh
OL
New Orleans, LA
Edna Karr
6'8"
320

Patrick Miller
OL
West Palm Beach, FL
Dwyer
6'7"
260

Jerald Hawkins
OL
Baldwin, LA
West St Mary School
6'7"
285

Offense is always centered around the O-line. Future looks good!

Its a nice class. Now they just need technique, and Moffit.

2010-2012 recruiting classes will be remembered for the big men in the trenches. We're loaded

Without the big guys in the trenches the offense will not be successful no matter how many skill people you have. The games are won and lost in the OL and DL.

This may have an obvious answer, but why do coaches prefer Tall (as tall as you can get) offensive linemen compared to defensive linemen who seem to average around 6'2" or so? Thanks in advance...

Tall = Longer Arms. Helps with pass blocking. Explosiveness, speed, burst, and quickness are necessary for D-L, while O-L need size, reach, power and intelligence for protection schemes.

Also pad level is a big deal for Dlineman. And being a little shorter helps that

Height used to be important for the tackles but OGs have gotten taller over time. It spreads out the oline and creates better space, arm reach is highly important and if your 6-2 290 and going against a dude 6-6 310 you will lose a lot of trench wars. centers have pretty much stayed between 6-2 to 6-4. Low center of gravity with a great base after a quick snap of the ball helps with protection assignments for centers.

Thanks.

It just seems that a Tall O line would be harder to throw and see over. A tall D line would be able to see the quarterback better and knock down passes easier?

But I see your point...

Good point. That's why your QB is ideally 6-4 or taller. Height is huge for QBs also.

In case you don't remember former Bama OT Andre Smith, he was drafted very early in the first round despite being suspended right before the Sugar Bowl which most likely caused Bama to lose badly to Utah. He was short for a OT(6'4") but had abnormally long arms for a guy his height which gave him an elite wing-spin. He was also extremely athletic for a guy who weighed 330 pounds which is another advantage for taller lineman. Lineman who carry a lot of weight but are still very agile are usually the taller variety like Jake Long and Joe Thomas.

What do we have as far as center goes? Who looks to take over for PJ after next year?

All these guys suck. If Miles doesn't land any 5* commits on the OL soon, we'll start to see the difference in a couple of years.

Beyond pathetic. Miles inability to land any of those 5* OLmen is just inexcusable.

Rivers is 6' 7" and won't be able to see over the line. Randall is 6'. He'll have to do nothing by roll out passes.

It's been discussed and it seems that Elliot Porter, Corey White or Trai Turner are the most likely candidates. I think it will be Corey White
