Ok, first off, you didn't get the flair that I'm sure you were looking for. For your next build, go to the link I had put up around page 2. That will show you how to get a good flair.

Second, the angle you had cut your bowstems was to much. That is the reason you have a pull in at each end. Next time cut them at 17 1/2drg angle.

Third off, fiberglassing a wood pirouge just adds to much weight. Look at the link I put up if you don't want to glass again.

Over all, you did ok for your first build without any help.

If you need help, bump this thread. I come to tigerdropping just about every day.

My great grandfather built us three when we had our old lease and none were glassed. Just a few coats of marine paint and we never had any problems with them leaking.

There is a few things I would do differently if I do another one. Actually debating selling this one and making another.

Is the link still up? I couldn't find it.

How long did it take you? I'm not going to be working between Christmas and New Years. I'll be doing a lot of hunting, but I was thinking of making one for my son while they are away that week. Is that enough time to allow for all the drying and work that needs to be done?

That is plenty of time. It took me 7 days start to finish, but I only worked on it after work and read the instructions over and over again 50 times. Knowing what I know now, I could knock it out in 3 days probably.

I gave the wood glue 24 hours to dry, but the glass only takes 2 hours.

Aren't you around my area? I'm up to $200 which is a direct result of the fiberglass. I probably used too much.

Edit: I've never even looked at a Pirogue up close, so this was truely a crazy experience. I'm very happy with it.

No, I am in Baton Rouge.

Do you really need the fiberglass? I was reading other posts saying marine paint will do the trick.

I have never built one, but I would think it would be very rewarding and something my son would love to have.

I'm from Central, but live in Mandeville.

Anyway, I'm glad I used the fiberglass as being a big guy it gives me a little more security. However, I did use too much looking back. I have no idea about building one with out it.

Very rewarding and it feels good when I have family and friends telling me how good it looks. I'll def be building my son one of these in a few years.

Here you go again.

LINK

Oh, mine take about 8 hours to build if you have somewere were it is warm to build it and know how to use power tools. Cost just under $150 to build without paint.

Thanks for re-posting.

Trying to figure out which of the two would be easier to build.

I thought Uncle Johns would be easier, so I went with it. However, he doesn't list the exact measurements. That's why you have to buy the plans from him. I didn't do that, I just went with my own made up measurements.

I'd go with fish's plans. Plus he's got pics.

If any of y'all need help, just let me know. If you can't lay it out or cut the bow stems, for a small fee I could do the stems and cut a full size paper pattern. I don't know what Uncle Johns charged, but I'm sure my price would a lot lower. About 8 or 9 months, I started a thread about holding a building class. Had a few interested, but no takers.
