If they aren't going to let us make trades than why did the NBA buy the team?

That is what's most flabbergasting to me on this. Did Stern and the owners just expect us to curl into a fetal position and let the team deteriorate until someone bought it? Surely they knew that no progress would be made until the lockout was resolved and season ticket sales could be monitored.

I think one of the real reasons this has occurred is the owners are scared of a resurgent Lakers squad. Kobe + Paul + Bynum + a star 2012 free agent is stellar. Kobe + Paul + Howard is unstoppable. The NBA ownership of the Hornets is merely an excuse.

This is what I'm thinking it's all about. We enabled the Lakers to try to build an almost unstoppable force but we did what we had to do to get the best value for our superstar that wanted out.

I think it's financial. This trade wiped out luxury tax revenue for the other owners because the lakers would actually shed salary in getting Paul. They don't care about competition. Look at some of the payrolls. 90% of these teams aren't trying to win anything.

so one of their franchises didn't go into bankruptcy and possibly affect the value of every small market franchise

that's kind of why. the owners are making a statement about stars leaving small market teams for big market teams. they're throwing a bitch fit more in line with a 4 year old at a candy store
