Just snagged an under the breath comment from Peter Mcallister in HA1.

When Frank makes his off remark that "I only have travlers checks" when they are all around eating pizza, Peter can be heard ever so faintly mumble "You probably have the travelers checks that don't work in France"

I have seen this movie 100's of times and at least 4 in the last 3 days and just noticed this 5 minutes ago for the first time.

So apparently Peter McAllister is aware and cares that his brother Frank is a cheap arsehole

ETA: AMC story notes are sweet, and I think they are different in tonights running from Mondays.

Why did Kevin decide to use the feathers and fan? Surely this was for shits and giggles because how would that hurt Harry?

Ok I'm watching this now, and something new is bothering me.

Maybe this can be attributed to Kevin being 8, but why would he even bother leaving the window open and the ornaments on the floor? It only works if the person coming in has already been to the basement and lost his shoes. Otherwise it doesn't do anything.

And speaking of the basement, why is the tar sticky enough to warrant taking off Marv's shoes and socks, but he has no problem moving his feet from the higher steps?

And one more thing...how is it possible that by the time HA2 came around his parents still didn't know what happened? THERE WAS TAR ON THEIR STEPS. Shitty parents, as established.

My theory is that the Christmas robberies were a cover for a much larger scam. Marv and Harry would rob the houses, and flood them out. Then the family would send in their construction front to strong arm the suburbanites and gobble up the contracts to rebuild the destroyed homes. A couple small time crooks robbing homes of maybe $10-20k total. Or a crime family scooping up a few 100k in construction contracts

Also no one responded to this. Serious conspiracy theory.

And ya know being that Kevin was a material witness in a crime I'm sure the police never stopped by for further follow up etc.

Makes sense, Harry = Tommy DeVito.

ETA: 1990 was definitely a great year for Joe Pesci. Won an Oscar and was in the #1 grossing movie of the year.

Also, why would Marley leave him alone after rescuing him from certain death/torture?

Maybe that was intentional so Buzz would slip on it.

I know Uncle Frank gets crapped on, but I feel like he's a sympathetic character. Peter has done well for himself to the point where the "Wet Bandits" identify his house as their priamry target. Rob has enough bread to live in Paris, fly 14 people to and from Paris, send 2 kids to school in Chicago (either U of Chicago or Northwestern) and still keep his house in NYC as we learn in the sequel. Frank is obviously poor, the black sheep of the family, and is rasing a son that pisses the bed. His wife is overweight, he doesn't have the looks or charm of Peter. On top of it all, Kevin is a complete dick. He is a little jerk.

By the way, has anyone dug up what kind of racket Peter and Rob were into?

If that were true, then he certainly would have sent someone to get Kevin.

Why is John Candy such a savior? She could have easily rented a car and driven much faster than John Candy's gigantic van back to Chicago from Pittsburgh, but instead I think Mrs. McCalister was DTF and want to play someone's trumpet on the way back.

Nope, because they were out of rental cars. Although she may have been DTF nonetheless.
