The way the voters should view the Alabama rematch situation

Nov. 5th was basically the NFC or AFC championship. The two clear cut best teams in the country (let's say the packers and 49ers for example) have to duke it out before the big one and as a result one gets left out of the big game. There's no doubt in my mind that Bama is second only to LSU, but until a playoff system is implemented I don't see the logic in having a rematch in the national championship, regardless of what teams are involved.

What if the Packers have to play New Orleans in the NFC titel game? You mean the Pack has to beat them again? They shouldn't have to should they?

I agree with this logic..... And would say the same thing had Bama beat LSU. But, that is not how the BCS is going to work this year. We will get a chance to prove to the world that Nov 5th was not a lucky fluke win by LSU. As bad as it may be.....it is what it is. I hate to say it, had we lost to Bama I can almost guarantee we would be on outside looking in.

A rematch won't prove a damn thing. LSU/Bama could probably beat each other on any weekend. Bama had their chance. They lost at home with LSU's backup (at the time) QB. Also, LSU will play 13 games versus Bama's 12 games.

Those 2 statements contradict each other.
The purpose of the voters & BCS is to match the 2 best teams in college football: LSU vs. Alabama
I'd rather play anyone else in the country since LSU already beat Bama once, but under the current system, nobody but LSU & Alabama deserve to be in the title game.

Well there's a playoff in the NFL, if new orleans and the pack made it to NFC championship then clearly they deserved it. College is different, regular season games mean more especially late in the season. The whole problem here is not having a playoff system

The way I was thinking about it was if the two best teams in the NFL were in the same conference, and i'm talking head and shoulders above the rest like bama and LSU currently are, then they'd have to meet in a conference championship and one would inevitably get left out of the superbowl. Just an analogy trying to make up for the fact that college doesn't have a playoff and has to deal with the crappy BCS

I'm for a playoff also, but do you really think it wouldn't end up LSU vs. Alabama in a playoff this year? Yes, it's possible they could lose, but they're the 2 best teams in the country & deserve to play for the title.

Completely different scenarios seeing as the NFL regular season is set up entirely differently. First off, both teams would've won their divisions. If the Saints came in as as wild card they'd have to win playoff games on the road to get to the Super Bowl.
The problem is that college football is not like the NFL. Schedules are balanced in the NFL. Not in college.
In the end, Bama had it's playoff game against LSU already and lost at home.

College is different,
Absolutely, it's the only sport I can think of where there's even a notion that if you have to beat a team twice to win a title that it's somehow unfair.
But, it's not unfair in conferenc championship games that might cost a team a shot a the title...like say LSU/Tennesse in 2001.
Bring on dem Bama bitches. I got no problem with them getting a shot, and I'd bet my bottom dollar neither does Les and da boyz.

I disagree. The point is to decide on the field which is the best CFB team in the country. That decision, if it were between LSU and Alabama, has already been decided. Let someone else have a shot that hasn't already had a shot at proving they are the best.

Yes it definitely would I think. My logic was along the lines of "every game is a playoff game" which the BCS rankings have implemented over the years.

I disagree.
HMMM..my understanding of the very implementation of the BCS championship game was to create a system the match the two best teams.
Perhaps we each interpret what best fits our argument.

You disagree with the stated purpose of the BCS is to match the top 2 teams together in a national championship game?
The purpose of the BCS to match the best 2 teams in college football isn't an opinion that can be disagreed with. It's the stated fact of the system.
You can disagree with having a BCS altogether (which I do adamantly), but that's a completely different argument.

So if you win the NFC championship, the loser should get a rematch with you in the superbowl
Posted on 11/26/11 at 11:03 pm to LSU
Alabama doesn't deserve it because they lost at home against us. The way this should work is that another team that won their conference and has one loss should be getting a shot at us. Right now that could be Va Tech, Oklahoma State. That should take priority. You shouldn't be playing for a National Championship if you already lost to the team you would be playing and you didn't even win your division.

No we do not. You're interpretation is citing the means to the end as the ultimate end. Mine is not.
The object of the BCS is to decide which team is the best in college football and do it fairly. It does that by ranking teams, and the two best are to face off on the field (now wait for it...)
TO DECIDE WHO IS BEST
That's happened already between Alabama and LSU. Give someone else a chance.

If you read rules/by-laws, they don't exactly say what you think.

You're missing the point of it though. The whole reason for the ranking system is to decide which team is the best in college football. Has that decision not already been made between these two schools in question?

Fairly...and what is fair? Lot's of interpretations for fairness...and yours is not the only one.
