“The guys in this state that play for this school, it just seems that they care more,”

Not sure this is the best way to put it, Miles.

I have learned to not get my hopes up about Shepard. He seems like a great teammate and person, but every week I think "this is the week he finally turns it on"--then nothing. I'll just keep my expectations low (3 catches for 23 yards; 2 carries for 15 yards) and hopefully he exceeds them.

I would agree with you, but those two catches were pretty nice last week. I actually believe that he may be finally turning the corner at the position. We should use him as a burner every now and then down the field like a Devery just to keep the safeties back some. IDK just brainstorming here.

This. Plus you have to consider that last week was only his second game this season. He's still getting in the swing of things.

progress yet to be seen. Hopefully our "scrimmage" against FL will help him break out

No, I know. He did look pretty good. When you only complete 8 passes, I guess you need to keep your expectations in perspective. I just always thought he would be one of those special special players that you expect a big play out of every time they touch the ball. I remember going to the Vandy game at TS in 2009 when he was a true freshman, and he got really his first meaningful touches of his career in that game. Every time he touched the ball, the stadium was a little bit hushed and the energy level went up. We were all waiting for it.

I'm pulling for him, of course, because he's very likable.

Will he ever throw a pass?!?! (WR/RB Pass) We all know he's never playing QB.

Scrimmage? The Florida Gators? Don't know if I would go that far bud. Just sayin'.

No kidding. One of the sports web sites had us picked to win by 4 TDs or more. That really worries me. I'll be happy with a win. Period.

No doubt. I really think LSU get the win, but a tough fought win. This is the SEC. And the Gators have got a chip on their shoulders. It's been a long time since someone went in to the Swamp and dominated like Bama did on a national stage. We will get victory, but it will be 4 solid quarters, you can bet on it.

I’m definitely seeing some progress. I just need to keep building off the success I’m having kind of early and keep getting better.”
Way too much 1st person usage indicating a lack of team mentality, from what I have been told. More evidence of the team division, I guess. It is apparent which "camp" he joined.

Florida is no push over, neither is Tennessee, or Auburn....Alabama is still a long way away. I wish people would stop focusing on Nov. 5th and just get hyped for the big game that's right in front of them.

very true. probably wouldn't have made those catches last year. As he says himself, though, he's gotta be more consistent.

As far as his running, though, it's hard to be too disappointed. If you only get the ball 1-2 times a game, not very much chance to excel.

Having him run "go" routes is a good idea on paper, but I'm not sure he does that well catching that route. I would like to see the Tigers get him the ball just a bit more because I think his speed and elusiveness are dangerous and would give defenses something to think about. But I think if he's gonna get the ball more, it'd probably be best to have it be via hand-off, pitch, or screen.

No offense, but I didn't read it like that at all. I have always been impressed with RS and think he always speaks well and is a team player. Think you may reconsider those comments.

Same here. My game prep is scattered and lacking focus for looking to Nov 5. I allowed one of my favorite bourbons to run dry and I am down to 4 beers and 1/2 growler on the eve of the FL game. Usually that shite is stocked no later than Wednesday. I am going to get my arse kicked tomorrow.

Those catches he made vs Kentucky were pretty unreal. He also made a tough catch vs WVU. I feel like his catching has improved dramatically. The real thing he needs to improve upon is adjusting to the ball. He did that vs Kentucky a little better as compared to WVU.

God forbid the results of hitting him in stride!

I like that the improvement in his routes, catches, technique, etc are noticeably better, yet he is still pushing himself hard. I don't recall him previously going up as high in traffic as he did last week. He seems to be laying it out there now more than before, also. When I think about it, that is noticeable across the entire team more than the past couple of years.
