Remember when people said that Haslett's teams were talented?

They could just never really piece it together? This team is far and away better talent-wise than any team Haslett ever had. Haslett had some good players while he was here, but the Saints are stacked now compared to 2001-2005.
I will say though that the 2000 Saints D was downright nasty.

So you're saying Chris Oldham didn't scare you as an opposing offense?

That 2000 defense had some shitty LBs and secondary.

Sammy Knight, Fred Weary, Mark Fields. Yeah, those guys were awful

Keith Mitchell made the Pro Bowl that year. And don't tell me Sammy Knight was shitty.

Fields never lived up to his potential with the Saints and Fred Weary was at best decent.

This team is not that talented if you take away Brees and Payton's scheme

Those years were evidence at how retarded our front office was. Losing guys like Mitchell, Knight and Glover. Man has the times changed.

Pretty much
Horn/Deuce were more talented than anyone we have no offensively not named Graham. Defensively we're better but nothing special.

Going to have to agree...we're a good team but some guys are way overpaid for being system players. Offense is a model of what I'm talking about. Moore is a good player but $25 million for a system WR who takes underneath routes and is pure possession?
Saints do not have a "great" WR. The only position we have elite players on offense is QB and G. Possibly Graham if he keeps developing.

Haslett's teams had the better defense, those guys would get after people. take no prisoners kind of shite, but SP's offense is by far the best Saints offense ever.

They did have "talent". Enough to go a lot further than they did too. They lacked a lot of team chemistry though. Haslett is a good enough DC but just not cut out to be a HC. He chased athletes over football players way too often (Tesucky over Knight). He was way too soft (player friendly). The best example was Wayne Gandy having a recliner in the locker room.

Jones had to be the worst tackling Safety I ever seen. Played like he was 5'9 170lbs and you'd never guess that looking at him.

I don't understand how Brooks crashed and burned so hard. Didn't work hard enough? Bad coaching? He was as promising as say a Matt Ryan or a Matt Stafford back in 2001.

La'Roi Glover was the most talented d-lineman we've had since Ricky Jackson. I cannot remember a sicker interior d-line than Glover/Hand. Darren Howard was also a stud but he was set to get outta NO at the earliest opportunity. Too bad the offense at the time wasn't anywhere as good as the defense on a bad day.

Disagree. In 2001 he was more a flash in the pan. We were excited for a playoff win but his record as a starter was 10-11 after 2001. His TD/INT ratio was 35/28. He wasn't highly touted out of college.
His ticket was immense physical skills. His downfall for weaknesses in intangibles & leadership. He never refined his skills. The not working hard enough might be right. As for coaching he might have played better than he was from that- Mike McCarthy OC.
Out of current QBs I would liken him closer to Matt Cassel. Good career start but will be a backup again if not putting it together.
