Shopping for a new thermometer

My previous one fried last night. Five minutes after I put the bird in and set the high end temp alert to 163, the alarm was beeping. I checked it and the temp was all over the place, and now there's no temp at all. Not sure if it's the unit or if the probe with the 3' cord is fried. Fortunately I had my oven proof dial thermometer to use, so it came out perfectly.
Anyone have a brand/unit they would recommend or steer away from? I'll be picking up another thermometer soon, but I'd like one that would last more than a few months.
This is the one that fried after just 3 months:
Scouring Amazon now. Any tips would be appreciated.

How do these things work. You put them in the chicken and in the oven?
Never heard of such a thing. Big surprise.

Do you think chefs walk around with one of those in thier top pocket? Get a simple battery operated instant read one for about 12.00 dollars.

Mine is an Acurite. I've had it for years and it still works well. I LOVE this thing!

I just use one that I got from Walmart for $14. I don't use it for steaks or chicken, though. Just briskets, butts, etc. Roasts.

I have only ever bought Taylor thermometers. They're cheap and accurate.
