The meaning and usage of words changes over time. There are also differences in culture where certain things are seen differently.
When other 18-23 year olds are playing against each other, there is certainly "talk" going on. The word "trash" has been added to it.
Now, 40-70 year old guys listening to 40-70 year old announcers who are far removed from the intensity of athletic competition, if they ever had it, are "shocked" by this.
But what these people don't realize is there's no difference between what tm7 says today and dick butkis hitting a guy hard and saying "there's more of that here next time you come back". Just changes in the words over time.
Perhaps the most respected basketball player of all time was also the biggest "trash" talker.
If tm7 wants to talk trash to the other players, who certainly talk it back to him, let him do so as long as he can back it up.
