I anticpated a big nite for our DE's, Sam Montgomery, in particular. I really didn't hear Mingo or Montgomery's names called much, tho' KeKe had one nice strip. Did I miss good play by Montgomery?
Also, I would be curious to see what others think oabout our LB play, epecially in the first half.

Hatcher is beyond terrible

Barrow is solid

Big sam played very well. Our LB's need to stick to their assignments a little better, but they tightened up in the 2nd half. Overall I was pleased.

And that came on a clear passing situation. He needs to get better at playing the run. If he learns that, watch out.

They had one long drive where they just dunked in down low to their RB and Baker was getting arse raped. He couldn't keep up with him.

Besides that I thought we were damn solid.

If hatcher is bad, Francois is an abomination.

They are both pretty bad IMHO. It's as if they aren't even on the field

Hatcher is the weak link on our Defense. The penalty and the whiffs one that one drive almost cost us, and gave them momentum. He's just not a MLB, and is going to give up a few big plays a game. He does give you some depth, though.

Agreed. It seemed early on our defensive line was attacking upfield and over committed putting themselves out of position.

Baker had a nice play in the 4th quarter where he was cut blocked by the rb, then he got up and sacked the QB.

has anyone in the history of football ever fallen on their face before trying not to jump offsides?

Just think how frightening we would be if we could actually sign elite lber's like bama and Florida

This is why we need these in-state stud LB's badly. I can't remember there every being a LB class like this in LA. Devall would be HUGE. I've seen him play in person...he's a MAN.

These comments are consistent with my concerns.
As great as our defense looked, with exceptional play from the DL (Logan and Brockers were dominant) and Defensive backs, our linebacker play was average at best, particularly in the first half.
Our DE's are awesome athletes, but can be exploited at times.

But I want him now. Can we get him

our LB play

I know it's captain obvious, but LB play remains the weak spot on the D. And it wasn't just Hatcher.

When MSU drove a couple of times, missed assignments (or poor reactions) by LBs were big factors.

That being said, the D was excellent overall. We get some improvements in LB play, and that D will be unbelievable.

I know as the season goes on people are gonna pick on our linebackers and it worries me. I would throw to tight ends all game against us.

Regardless. We've played at least you consider two strong running teams to start the season. Oregon and Mississippi State. Last year Oregon was averaging almost 300 yards. They didn't break 100 against us. Mississippi State coming into the game was averaging over 300 yards a game. They barely broke 50.

Freak was attacking the line of scrimmage on the snap. Idk why State didn't try and do false counts to draw him offsides.

I was very impressed later in the game with our defense and how they adjusted to what State wanted to do.

I thought Montgomery played well as did Adams. Didn't hear much out of Mingo.
