South Alabama makes its first foray into the Football Bowl Subdivision this week

South Alabama has won the first 19 games in school history, playing against a mix of FCS and lower division schools. That 19 game winning streak will be tested in a big way this week with USA traveling to Raleigh to take on North Carolina State. This is another first for a school that is building a program from scratch and transitioning from no football to FBS faster than any other before them (UTSA will do it a year faster, but they'll also be a year later). This will be the first of many games against FBS competition for the Jaguars. USA takes on Kent State next week, and will play a full FBS schedule in 2012. In 2013, the Jags will have full FBS membership.
There are no delusions about USA's chances in this game, but the Wolfpack will be missing at least 8 players, and didn't look great in a loss to Wake Forest. Another FCS team, Liberty, was able to keep it relatively close until the 4th. If the Jags can put up a similar effort, I'll consider that a great success. The simple fact that USA is putting a team on the field against an FBS team is a win for a school that didn't have a football team 4 years ago.
The Jag defense will be tested by former Under Armour All-American QB Mike Glennon. We'll need big games from LB Enrique Williams (#28) and FS BJ Scott (#1).
The Jag offense leans heavily on running backs Kendall Houston (#29) and Demetre Bake (#33), while QB CJ Bennett (#15) is capable of guiding the offense down the field.
USA! USA! USA!

It will be nice if they can ever get out of that dump named Ladd-Peebles.

Y'all have a shot against Kent.

Actually watched part of the game vs. West Alabama. Ken Barfield made a helluva play when he hurdled the RB who came up to block him and he got the sack. What time is the game Saturday?
shite when we played our games there in high school, the field was pure shite. Damn near all the Mobile schools shared Ladd back then. At least McGill and Davidson play at a different stadium now.

I remember when I was a kid I used to draw up "plans" for expanding Ladd.
The field turf is nice, though...

Finally, we can stop hearing all the jag figs talk about how great they are while referencing the fact they have never lost a game.

For those that don't already know about South Alabama Football...
We played as an unclassified team in 2009 and 2010. In 2011 and 2012, we will be an FCS Independent/Transitional FBS. In 2013, we'll be a full-fledged member of the Sun Belt.

So did I, graduated in 2000. I remember that some renovations where done on the stadium either my freshmen and sophomore year. That field used to tear up rather easily,I would have loved to have played on that new turf.

Yea, I started in 2000 but went to the games all through grade school and every senior bowl. It was terrible until they cleaned it up in the late '90s.
They either need to renovate it for USA or build a new stadium next to Hank Aaron Stadium.

Ladd was renovated and painted up a bit for USA. It doesn't change the fact that it's in a bad part of town though. With that said, south should hang in with NC state...SIYM!

Virginia Street isn't that terrible...south of the stadium...eh.
