It just seems that while y'all are currently on top (i guess) of the Big 12, why jet to the SEC when there's the potential to round out the bottom of the west for a few years?
With the extra appeal of playing in the SEC and still playing at home will be a big draw to a lot of HS recruits that may choose Tejas if aTm stayed in the Big 12. With that extra draw on HS recruits to build on a team that look pretty good last year, they have the foundation to have a good program in the near future IMO.

Why haven't y'all won more than what y'all have? Y'all seem to have resources.

Why all the hype?
2. Recruiting. It'll open up access to a LOT of Texas recruits we normally don't have a shot at. IMO, this will work out far better for A&M than any other SEC school; playing in the SEC and staying home in Texas provides a lot more incentive to recruits. Although, LSU should fare better than most other current SEC schools.

Slocum screamed from the rooftop while we were winning that we needed better facilities. Then AD Groff didn't build them. We lost the bricks and mortar race to OU and Texas and recruiting and wins followed thereafter.
We hired a new AD and started facility upgrades but chose the wrong coach. We got Fran'd. Thanks Stallings
Hopefully now we have good facilities that we are still upgrading and a good coach in Sherman.
The future appears to be bright in Aggieland. Time will tell

We've been called the second most underachieving team in the NCAA. Here are the common arguments as to why:
A&M existed until 1965 as an all male, military college. That year was the first that women were allowed in without reservation. A&M was about the size the citadel is today.
Change doesn't happen overnight, however. With an extremely small alumni base and a powerhouse program in TU looming over it, A&M stayed down for much of the 1970s. As the size of the graduating classes grew, so did the size of the stadium, and the name recognition.
In the 1980s, the fruits began to ripen. A&M picked up Jackie Sherill as HC, and was finally large and rich enough to compete. The late 1980s and early 1990s saw A&M begin to dominate Texas. We won 9 times in 10 years and won a handful of CCs. We also had a booster get caught paying players, and went undefeated the year we had no bowl game, and no TV appearance, per the NCAA.
RC Slocum was a decent coach, but not a great one. We began our rise again, but were slowed by a terrible AD and his final hire, Fran.
Now we have a great AD, are in the top 20 for the directors cup every year, and finally have a coach with the potential to shine.
We are an old university, but are just now getting used to the sunlight.
