Okay gang, so today I was bushhogging the pasture and I have one small peninsula of trees in said pasture about 50 yds long and 15 yds wide, with a rental home behind them and my 30 acre pasture all around them. When cutting near the peninsula I ran a VERY new fawn out of said peninsula. I managed to get the fawn back into the peninsula, however pretty sure there was no doe in there with the fawn.

I left the fawn alone once I knew it was there so that the mom could come take care of the fawn. However if the mom doesn't come back how long can a fawn make it without milk from it's mother in 100 degree heat? I would think not long, and I put trail cams on to monitor the peninsula tonight to see if mom returns. If the doe doesn't return should I leave the fawn alone tomorrow, or should I intervene?

I realize that you are supposed to leave them alone in this case, but I don't want a dead fawn in the back pasture on my hands. How long should I give the mom to return? (I pray that she will take care of things tonight)

They should be able to find each other tonight as long as coyotes don't get the fawn first. Fawns will call for their mothers when they get seperated

That is what I am hoping for tonight. I almost thought about blowing my fawn distress call to see if I could call in the mother. Will hold off on that for now.

hate to say so, but I'll bet if she doesn't return by tonight, cayotes will finish the little fellow off before tomorrow...

Well the fawn distress will bring two things to it, predators and doe. Between the two I honestly would rather be facing a coyote than a pissed off doe, but the fawn will likely see it different. At least you didn't find the fawn with the brushhog. It is a little disturbing when this occurs but the concealment instinct of new fawns is so strong they will actually lay there and let you run over them.

How far away is the nearest water source? this is likely where mom went and left that fawn alone.

My pond is about 100 yds from where the fawn is.

I am about to go check my trail cams to see what came to visit the fawn last night. Hopefully it was the momma.

I am VERY lucky I didn't bushog the fawn. I saw a glimpse of brown running in the strip of woods and assumed I spooked a coon (it was that small), but then I got a better view and realized it was a fawn. Before I could get out of the area, the fawn was through a fence and in the wide open. I managed to get the fawn back where it came from and left it alone.

No pictures

Don't really have any idea what to do now. It's not to say that she didn't come in last night, I don't know what to do. Weather to leave it alone and hope the doe got it, or to walk through the small patch of woods and see if we flush the fawn.

Hopefully the doe came in last night as one of my cameras was pointing in a bad direction so it's very possible that she came in and we didn't get her on camera. Not what I was hoping for.

No idea what the best move is next.

Personally, I would just let it be. If the fawn and momma didnt find each other last night, the chances the fawn is still alive or has the potential to get better if found are very slim.

Not to worry bro, this is a very common practice. The doe will leave the fawn alone to go feed, piss etc. She'll be back in no time and will have no problem finding it.

Appears all is well. I went to get pick up my cameras and I am positive there ins't a fawn in the small patch of woods. Either way I'm going to let nature take it's course.

As heartbreaking as it is sometimes, thats the best way. Just let nature do it's thing.

Well mother nature as normal knows what she is doing. The doe was taking care of the fawn the whole time.

About 130 pm today my wife saw a doe enter the small patch of woods with the fawn in it. About an hour and a half later the doe and fawn emerged from the woods and went into a bigger patch behind the house. Hopefully all is well now and most improtantly I didn't do anything to mess up the mother fawn relationship.

Smoking a fawn with a bushog isn't a pretty thing.

Either the doe came back or the lil fella didn't make it. I would bet that the doe was right there the whole time.

Pretty sure its against the law to take a fawn in and try to raise it...
Back in the day someone gave us one that lost its mother due to lead poisoning...just fed it powdered calf milk and when it got big we let it go.

Solid bet. The doe didn't get as far away from the fawn as OP thinks...

Some one should tell my cousin's husband that. A fawn has the run of the house in Old Metairie.

My uncle's dog caught a fawn this past weekend on a fourwheeler trail and got ran off almost instantly by a very pissed off doe. She left the fawn out in the open but my uncle could see her about 10 yards away in the woods.
