Beltran or Pence? Do you think the Giants made correct choice?

Giants fans, what do you think of the Giants getting Beltran and not Pence? Thus far it looks like Pence is the better choice and that's who I was hoping they would get. Hope Beltran heats up.

Pence is a better player. Beltran is talented sure, but his best years are behind him and he plays for himself--not the team. Hes always been that way. Pence will hustle all the way when his team is losing 10-0 in the 8th inning he will still run througha wall and beat out an infield hit. I would take guys like that over pretty boys like CB anyday.

I am not sure it is that simple.

I don't think the Giants were ever really looking at Pence. They made the Beltran deal several days before the Pence market really heated up. Besides, Ed Wade knew who he was going to deal him to.

It kinda helps Pence to be in the middle of the Phillies lineup. He's going to see a lot more pitches to hit. Beltran is the better hitter, but he's not going to see much to hit playing for the Giants.

Would have been an interesting bidding war. Wheeler + Brown or Cosart + Singleton.

It's kind of a different situation, but I'm much happier with the Phils landing Pence. Beltran appears to be just a rental where as Pence is under contract for another two seasons after this one.

You just summed up the entire Astros season. Damn I miss that guy

He's nowhere close to as good as Beltran... even in his prime and Beltran at 35...

Beltran

Hasn't really done shite since his playoff run in Houston in 2004. That was pretty epic though!

Beltran's the better player, but I feel both the Phils and Braves improved their team more.

Beltran, though, has the ability to carry a team if he turns it on.

Ed Wade has a hard-on for the Phillies so Pence was going there with almost no doubt.

Beltran is one of the best postseason performers in the modern era. The last time he was traded midseason to a contending team, he nearly carried the Astros to the World Series by himself. If you're just looking to make a run deep into the playoffs, you take Beltran every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Whichever player went to Philly would have had a better second half of the year because of the protection from the other guys in the lineup and the fact that it is way more hitter friendly of a park. I hope Beltran does not slow down too much, my fantasy team appreciates his efforts.

I'm not going to disagree with how good of a player Beltran is... I think both players bring exactly what each team needed.

Giants needed an impact bat to jump start the lineup. Phillies needed a grit-n-spit player to fit into their lineup to get Howard more pitches. I think each team got exactly what they needed. Pence wouldn't offer nearly the impact the Giants needed. Beltran wouldn't exactly fit in with the Phillies club house.

At least, that's my point of view.
