Saban is the best college defensive mind in the country

Sabans genius on defense can't be debated but I think Cooper is a better DB coach. None of Sabans DBs outside of maybe Corey Webster ever turned out good in the NFL. Many Cooper DBs that were drafted are productive in the NFL, most notably high draft picks Donta Robinson and Jonathan Joseph.

LSU will be a DB factory as long as Cooper is here. Whether Landon wants to be a part of that is his choice. I think he will choose wisely

Actually there is a comparison. Fred Bennett is as good as Randall Gay, Andre Goodman compares to Travis Daniels, etc.. The jury is still out on Javy Arenas and Kareem Jackson but they both were not very good last year. In fact, Texans overrated 1st round pick m last year Kareem Jackson played so well that the texans signed Jonathan Joseph at CB to take his spot. Coincidentally Joseph was formerly coached by Ron Cooper at USCe.
Dime or scout team DBs do not quantify to having great success. Quick; name 2 Saban drafted DBs to have productive careers in the NFL. Corey Webster, and, and, and,....

Let's stay away from that argument and jsut agree both are great, but Saban does have the more detailed list of NFL DB's. Cooper could catch up though.

Arenas had a good season as a nickle back. Great? No, but he wasn't "not very good".

Actually, they moved the CB opposite Jackson last year, Glover Quin, to FS, thus opening a whole at CB for JJ to fill.

So who gets credit for LaRon Landry?
And Saban told Kareem Jackson that he wasn't ready for the NFL and needed to stay another year. Not sure why so many of you keep pointing to his rookie season to try and bash Saban.

And as far the op goes, Lsu is and always has been the leader. Landon likes bama but it would be a serious shocker he left the state.

Well let's see Saban recruited him, and coached him for two years. Miles coached him for two years. He was drafted while Miles was at LSU. So both get credit.

How did miles coach him for 2 years?

nvm thought he was drafted after 2005. Still Saban deserves more respect as a DB coach from allot of you

Looking at before/after pics, Moffitt is who gets credit for Laron.

Not even worried about it at this point. He has been here way more and comments he has made hints the home factor will play big into his decision.

Odds are also in our favor, which is always good. Most bluechips stay near home.

Like who compared to who?

Look, I'm not debating that Saban is a damn fine coach. But after watching him for so long and how his DB's translate to the NFL, I think it's more the system and the way that system relies on his DB's and his blitz schemes.

Q: In 9 years, how many times has the great DB coach saban led the SEC in pass defense?
A: once. 2002.

Q: In 5 years, how many times has Les Miles led the SEC in pass defense?
A: twice. 2006, 2010.

really? who has gone on to have "great" success as a saban coached n.f.l. db?

cooper and saban have very similar careers as db coaches. cooper actually coached a thorpe award winner. he has a top five db drafted. not including captain munnerly, johnathon joseph, patrick peterson, mo claiborne, chad jones, and the current backfield at lsu.

which will no doubt be his greatest resume enhancer yet. It is useless debating Saban vs. Cooper, but I'd put Cooper's record at developing DB's toe to toe with Saban any day. It is a wash.

Brother Dawan does, as well. Taught him more about playing safety than any college position coach ever did.

We need LC worse than we needed JoeMc, Reed, or Robinson. IMO he's a a good as safety/LB as Janzen is at corner. This sucks!
