So last night I cheered Rapid Vienna to a 4-1 victory over Valencia. It was an awesome game with awesome fans and just an all around great night. I was there with 45 other Loyola Law students who are studying with me over here. Most had never been to a professional football match and were incredibly surprised as to how much fun it was. None of them expected to enjoy it this much, and I think we converted a few more Americans to the beautiful game.

It got me wondering, where was everyones first soccer game? How was it? Did you end up following that team from there on out?

they folded

first "high level" professional match was dallas burn - cd olimpia at tulane stadium. i was a kid. so, the only thing that i took from it was that professional players could knock the frick out of the ball (we sat behind one of the goals)

Ibrox 1976 Old Firm New Years Day Derby Glasgow Rangers 1-Celtic no score...What a game, I was 6 years old and still remember the roar after the goal was scored...Celtic were decent that year and that was a real result.

USA vs Argentina at the 1996 Olympics. I also went to some Birmingham Grasshoppers games before that (not sure what league they were in).

vs.

At Mile High Stadium.

The Rapids featured Marcus Hahnemann and Marcelo Balboa. The Metro Stars featured Alexi Lalas, Tab Ramos, and Tony Meola.

And in his first season, some 19 year old, third string goalkeeper. Maybe you've heard of him.

I actually saw Tim Howard's MNT debut, also in Birmingham. From the game report:

CD Olimpia v Real España, in Tegucigalpa 1993. I was 10. And I was frightened for my life.

I used to go to a hell load of Victoria games as a little kid in the late 90's, my dad used to play for Victoria back in the late 40's and early 50's I think. Well let's say the stadium was in a "dangerous" part of town especially when we played Olimpia and Motagua

I honestly don't remember any singular moment where I started watching it on television. I had played all my life. Getting into following it just seem subtle and organic, like it was destiny, like puberty and subsequently jackin' it to those blurry pay per view channels where every 15 seconds a snowy, warped titty would appear on the screen.

I studied in Seville in the fall of '95 and saw Real Betis vs. Santiago de Compestella yes they were in la liga.
I remember a few things.

No seats, just concrete bleachers
Betis won easily
The home fans abused an African player on the other team the entire game
The guy in front of me gave me and a buddy a drink from his flask whenever Betis scored

I've only been a fan since 2006 (casual then)

I remember it like yesterday. It was the day after my birthday, I was hungover as frick, alternating between throwing up and watching England-Sweden.

Joe Cole scored this doozy...

I still haven't been to a pro match live.

Never been to a pro game, but I got hooked in 2006. I was interested because we had a pool going, but the zidane head butt sealed it for me. Been a fan since.

Liga Nacional can be brutal. Especially for a short pasty-white American kid like myself. I went to that match with my abuelo (who used to play for some lower team, can't remember who), and my mom was livid. There were beer bottles being thrown, glass all over the place. And some homeless bum tried to assault me with a rock. He ended up stealing my Tropical banana soda when he snuck up behind me outside the stadium. Man what an experience that was.

Those things are the absolute best

But anyways it is pretty brutal, guess it was one of the 15,000 reasons my dad and our family moved here to the states

First major game I remember attending is Argentina-Bulgaria in WC group play at the Cotton Bowl. Don't remember it that well, I was 7. But I do remember that Maradona couldn't play due to failing a drug test.

Also Saw QPR-Crewe at Loftus Road December 2004 and Charlton-Arsenal at the Valley on 1/1/05.

Those games were fun, but nothing like when I went over this past April. Arrived in London Friday, drove to Cardiff to see QPR on Saturday come from behind twice for a 2-2 draw at Cardiff City. (two incredible goals in that game too) We weren't in the QPR section though, so we had to hold back on cheering when we scored.

Then back to London for a 1-1 draw at home to Hull on Monday, to essentially lock up promotion. Crowd atmosphere at that game was unbelievable. We even got to invade the pitch!

Can't even remember. I grew up going to the stadium in Honduras.

Haha that is funny! I got mugged at least three times in el nacional. If you went to the more expensive section it was not so bad though
