I am interested in buying an inexpensive 38 to take with me while kayaking/camping. I don't want to spend alot of money on a gun that will be bounced around my yak, but I do want a reliable gun that won't fail me if I ever need to use it.

Any suggestions?

Taurus or Rossi make nice, workable inexpensive revolvers in 38. I have owned both and was pleased no issues.

Also Charter Arms makes a decent 38 for the price

You should be able to pick up a decent used Saturday Night special for a good price at a pawn shop with a good supply of guns.

Thanks for the info. I own a 9 and .45 that I don't want to use on or around water.

That is the plan, just making sure to stay away from crap brands and/or models.

I had an aunt that had a pistol that would shoot two rounds occasionally when you pulled the trigger. One out the barrel and one out the cylinder

My dad had this Smith & Wesson .38 Special for years...He bought it from a police officer in the 70's and we shot it often until it was stolen a few years back....I hope to get one for old times sake some day soon....

I'd hate to be next to her at the shooting range...

I have a hard time believing that since a gun only has one firing pin.

I would not have believed it if I did not witness it myself. I shot it into a ditch and saw two splashes next to each other, then checked the cyclinder and it had two spent rounds in it.

She turned it over to sheriff's office for disposal.

inexpensive

is a relative term. Define the parameters for inexpensive and it'll make it easier to make recommendations.

Used, between $125-$200.

My brother has a hook-up that I can use to get a new gun at cost plus 10%. He bought a Bersa 380 auto for $279 about 10 months ago.

Since I will be on the water with it, I think a used revolver is the way to go.

I found a Ruger 380 ACP for $250. Not exactly what I am looking for but the size is right.
