I stole this from the MSB, just in case you guys don't look over there.

ESPN

quote:

NEW YORK -- NFL players and owners have agreed in principle to a new rookie wage scale, sources on both sides told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

10-12 rookies a year were making to much money. The other 200+ rookies were paid pretty cheap for NFL labor

What I don't understand about the Rookie wage thing is, who on the player's side was bitching? I mean I didn't think the players drafted this past April were even considered "employees" since none of them have signed contracts yet. And the current players wouldn't be affected by a rookie wage cap. So where does the player opposition come from?

+1

There's no reason to pay a rookie a $50m contract. This is a good thing for the league. Veterans can garner more salary, and this will help cap limits on bad teams.

Agree 100%. I never understood paying someone these ridiculous salaries before they even step foot on the field.

Players agreed to the money cut pretty fast. IIRC they had that settled back in March.

Players stood fast these past few weeks on length of rookie deals.

League wanted a mandatory 5th year at around 120% of starters salaries for all first round picks. Players said no cause average NFL career is less than 5 years so in essence the league league turned a rookie wage scale into a veteran scale.

I guess that makes sense. But, if I'm a veteran player, the rookie contract stuff doesn't affect me. If I'm a 2011 draftee, I really have no say in the matter because I'm technically not an NFL player yet.
