The reason I think a scratch golfer would be in the game a Lpga tour pro with a driver is because 275-285 is an 105-110mile an hour swing speed, and The 5 or 6 scratch players I know average faster than that. The reason they are scratch in large part is because they bomb it, because their short game is not even with an equivalent pro. Even with a 25 yard difference that is 3 clubs a hole and 5 clubs a par 5. That is a huge difference. I also think everyone is seriously under estimating how good a scratch golfer is. That said i think 76 wins.

One last twist to this. Take that same scratch golfer, give him Butch Harmon, the best equipment customized to him, bones on his bag, and 2 months to prepare without work, and the scratch golfer walks all over the LPGA pro.

The LPGA tournament of champions has been played on the same course as the ajga championship on the rtj trail. Winner of the LPGA tourney was like 17 under par. Winner of the ajga tourney (a scratch junior golfer) was two over par.

If that's the case, then why aren't guys like Bubba Watson, Holmes, Garrigus, Dusting Johnson, and Gary Woodland winning more often (top 5 in driving distance)?
Some of the top 10 in world ranking driving distance rank:
#1 Luke Donald - 145th
#5 Stricker - 127
#6 Mickelson - 23
#7 Jason Day - 21
#8 Kuchar - 125
#9 McDowell - 114
#10 Watney - 12
Half of these guys are about 25 to 40 yards shorter than the long hitters.
Point is, LPGA players have much more game than any scratch golfer....especially in the short game where you turn pars into birdies and bogeys into pars.
