Let D West walk. Its nothing personel its just common sense at least in theory. With Landry being a cheaper option and capable of almost matching stats with West while being better on the defensive end of the court it will provide more money to the team in order to pursue other options in free agency. With the contract West would demand we could try to sign something along the lines of both J Smith and M Thornton. Thornton is capable of dropping anywhere from 16-24 a night consistently as a starter and Smith could play off the bench at both the 2 and the 3 finishing with starter type minutes which in turn would come out to about anywhere from 13-17 points a game. This would also give us an open court fast break game with 2 slashers in Ariza and Smith who could be runningmates with Paul. I think even though we are trying to become a defensive minded team one of the things that cost us in the playoffs was a lack of offensive options, athletism, and size. This would help us in meeting two of those goals. I would then retract the offer given to Bellenelli and offer up his salary along with Jason Smith's in order to pursue another big body(Chandler) if by the grace of god Demps and Paul have that kind of pull, while bringing back Gray. This would bring back a superior defensive backcourt of Chandler and Emeka to stop teams from getting penetration and easy points in the point while allowing Ariza and Paul to defend the perimeter which is what they do best. Again this is all good in theory but to me at least sort of makes sense as well.

Basically you say let D West go and bring back Chandler, Thornton and Jason Smith.

NEXT!!!!

P.S: no need to recycle old Hornets players.

Think and hope you are suggesting Josh Smith, not Jason

i was talking j.r. smith and yes i wouldnt mind recycling players that probably should not have been let go to begin with. j.r. is a nice player and would be even better with chris paul, tyson chandler never wanted to be let go, and marcus is the only one i would think would have an issue coming back. on the flip side this team has to get better to keep chris and if you dont make moves even in a crappy pool of free agency your going to be in the lottery next year and then your next comment will be refering to the future city of the hornets.

No.

Trade 1
Paul
Okafor

to LAC for

Kaman
Mo Will
Gordon
Aminu
Minn 1st

Trade 2
S&T West

to OKC for

Ibaka
Nate

Trade 3
Trevor Ariza

for

Beasley
Randolph

Depth Chart
PG: Mo Will - Jack - Nate
SG: Gordon - Marco*
SF: Beasley - Aminu - Pondexter
PF: Ibaka - Randolph
C: Kaman - Gray*

Only questionable one is cap with OKC. Would leave us with 48.6 Mill in 10 players. I am assuming the cap number ends up soft around 55 for this season (expect a smooth transition so NBA doesn't screw the best teams in the league). Leaves Hornets with 6.4 to bring on a back-up big man (Beasley and Aminu can play some 4) and a wing (Gray and Marco will likely be back).

Playoffs may be a stretch but not a big deal because we have our pick and Minny's pick. If Beasley doesn't play enough D then Aminu will likely start.

Who would say no honestly?

Probably better if Okafor and Ariza switch locations.

PG: CP3, JACK
SG: THORNTON, J.R. SMITH
SF: ARIZA, J.R. SMITH, Q PON
PF: LANDRY, EMEKA
C: CHANDLER, EMEKA, GRAY

What is so wrong with the team that I suggested? I think we would have decent depth especially with whatever players you added to the team like a 3 pt specialist, and a developmental backup PG.

Actually not that bad if we went into a total rebuild mold. Would rather the original posters ideas eventhough his scenarios seem highly unlikely.

highly unlikely could be an understatement but the priciples behind them arent entirely. we need to add at least 3 players this offseason if we are to lose D West which im inclined to believe we will and even if we bring him back i believe we lose in that scenario due to having to commit that kind of money to a position that we have flexibility at while crippling our ability to address some of our bigger flaws.

would love that roster, but how would we be able to sign chandler, landry, smith and Thornton?

We would probably have to let Landry walk also, and overpay for one of the big free agent centers. Slide Okafor to the 4 and this would strengthen our interior defense and rebounding. This would severly weaken our offense in the post, so we would have to make a major upgrade at the 2 position with someone who has a scorers mentality. This is maybe where a Thornton or Smith would come in in your scenario. Also would have to find some players to fit in at the backup 4 and 5 spots.

I figured by not signing Marco's 3Mil, D West 10-12 Mil that alone would give us 13-15 to play with and that should be able to get Thornton, and Smith. We would have to get decent prices for them but Thornton at 4-5 Mil a year, Smith at 4-5 Mil a year, Chandler at 6-8 Mil a year. Leaving us with 3 mill over our current limit which can be worked hopefully through the front office. god forbid we had a owner.

Not no, but hell no.

I agree with letting west go, but other than that, those are horrible moves.

we need team players, not JR Smith's dribble 20 seconds and fire a fade 3.

We would take a huge step back with the moves you suggested, if somehow we could even get all that

JR Smith isn't worth the baggage that he would come with and would probably butt heads with Monty as much as Thornton did.

Marcus Thornton can stay away as well. Everybody ooh's and ahh's over what he did in Sacramento, but if he didn't fit into Monty's system the first go round, what makes you think it would work the second? All you people who love him just because he went to LSU need to get over it.

There's no way we're getting Chandler back. Dallas isn't going to let him go. End of story.

As much as I love D West, I agree that we may need to let him walk so we can possibly use his money to get another role player.

I agree with you. He is a very good basketball player. However, we've lost other (better) players and everybody was upset for a few weeks and then let it go. Why can't we do that with MT?

I know the team sucked, but everyone related to the Kings was all over his jock at the end of the year. They freaking loved him. He dropped like 16 points in the 4th quarter of his 2nd or 3rd game, and the coach admitted Thornton didn't even know the team plays at that point. They just let Marcus do Marcus. The man can ball #fact

what better players have we lost, specifically ones who were showing the potential he has shown in his 2nd year in the league?
