Way too early 2011 Season Predictions

Wanted to gauge everyone's thoughts on 2011 Season Predictions and NFC South Standings. Let's assume that the lockout will NOT effect any regular season games. Here's my thoughts:
NFC South:
==========
Saints: 11-5
Falcons: 10-6
Bucs: 9-7
Cam Newton: 4-12
I am a Falcons fan but the Falcons record looks ridiculous assuming the teams from last year stay average or better. I also think that Drew Brees only has 1-2 more "great" seasons left in him (let's be real, he isn't getting any younger). It appears to be a do or die 2 year period for the Saints whereas the Falcons and Bucs are clearly building for 2-5 years.
Thoughts?

I think it will be tight all between the Bucs, Saints, and Falcons. If/when the deal does get done both the Saints and the Falcons have some key players that become FA.
Also, Falcons mortgaged their 2-5 years to win this year. Good luck rebuilding that O-line.

That is a good point. I think the Falcons OL will be destroyed come FA. 2-3, including Clabo and Dahl will most likely be gone for the right $$.
They did have some OL players get drafted the last 1-3 seasons but clearly none of them are Pro Bowlers.
The fact that there's no 1st rd. pick next year could also really hurt the rebuilding of the OL.

Curious, how many "great" seasons do you think Tom Brady and Payton Manning have left in them?

You just lost credibility.

You don't trade away SEVERAL draft picks if you want to claim to be building for 2-5 years down the road.
The Falcons mortgaged their future for NOW.
I think that that Panther will win more than 4 games, but I agree with the rest of your division standings.

Exactly. The Falcons aren't building, they're built. With a receiver to compliment Roddy White, they just got a lot more scary if Michael Turner can keep churning out tough yards.

I personally think Peyton Manning is done. Done in the perspective of winning or playing for SB's. I also think that's more of a team deal than a QB deal.
Drew Brees is 32. Peyton is 35 and Brady is 33.
How many QB's continue to have "great" (Brees in 09) seasons after 32-33? Not many. Hell, most QB's don't even make it that long.
I know you're all Saints fans but be honest with yourselves. How many consistant and "great" seasons do you expect out of Brees?
For what it's worth, I'm not a Falcons fan that considers Matt Ryan "great" yet either. I think he has the potential but needs to win at least 1 playoff game first.

You should see his comments on the Bucs/Falcons thread...

What defines a "great" season?
Give me a couple criteria and we can test your statement.

So a QB is only great because of a team accomplishment?

My point was that no one acts as though Manning or Brady are over the hill, but Brees is younger than them. Brees has also done a good job of not taking hits and keeping himself in shape. I think all three have 3-5 years, consistent to the play we have come to expect, left in them.

well then, I guess Marino sucked eh?
and ryan has not done diddly compared to Marino and neither have won super bowls. so ryan , great? laughable on a personal and championship level.

it is called FEAR. Brees can play til he is 40 if he is not hurt. and be real good. Look at favre. The point is Brees does not need to be great. If he has a damn good D and a damn good running game....he does not need to be great for us to win championships.

What defines a "great" season? Well for a QB it would have to be consistent #'s. So I'd say - high passer rating in general. Obviously wrapped up in that is completion %age, yards, TD's, TD's to int ratio, etc.
Take last season for example, Brees INT's were much higher than ever (I think). He threw for a lot of yards but throwing that many INT's shows something (a decline maybe)?
Maybe it's a nagging injury to that knee, or whatever but if that continues for the next 1-3 years - is that not a decline?
I feel like we're arguing side points...
As for the QB being great because of a team accomplishment. Yes, clearly those both are connected...

I'll make your life a little easier.
Let's define "great" as QB rating over 100. Sure, I don't really like QB rating as a metric, but I'm sure that it's one that you're familiar with.
Here's a list of QBs who had a QB rating over 100 aged 32 and up (with a minimum of 8 games started that season):
Steve Young (33)
Joe Montana (33)
Tom Brady (33)
Brett Favre (40)
Randall Cunningham (35)
Steve Young (36)
Vinny Testaverde (35)
Steve Young (32)
Steve Young (37)
Chris Chandler (33) <--WITH THE FALCONS, NO LESS
Jim Harbaugh (32)
If we expand it to 95 and up, we get:
Petyon (33)
Ken Anderson (32)
Damon Huard (33)
Chad Pennington (32)
Rich Gannon (37)
Young (35)
Thesmann (34)
Kurt Warner (37)
Warren Moon (34)
Steve DeBerg (36)
Brady (32)
Favre (38)
Gannon (36)
Anderson (33)
Trent Green (34)
Chandler (32) <--AGAIN, WITH YOUR FALCONS
Peyton (32)
That's 28 different QB seasons (min. of 8 starts) with a rating of 95 or higher. If I lower the standard to 90 or higher, then you have a whopping 56 quarterback seasons.
Do you care to reassess your inane comment?

This is why I love the Mark Ingram pick. Drew just had too much on his shoulders last year.
