Deer hunters - Flashlights

I have a small Cabelas brand LED light I carry with me in the woods. It's good for walking to the stand, as it lights up the ground really well right a your feet, but it sucks for tracking or walking out in the evening when I want to see far ahead. I never walk to the stand in the mornings with a light anymore, I just ease my way in in the dark.
One of my buddies was using a streamlight he bought for $50 and that little sumbitch was bright. I'm thinking about picking one up. What do you use?

I try not to use a light, but in the black dark will use a headlamp. I have a couple of Petzl LED headlamps that are the bomb. Not much good for tracking. They have red lights on the theory that deer can't see red light. I used a Browning ballistic light for tracking, until i lost it last year.

I like Brownings products. They are a bit over priced, but I have had great results.
For head lamp, Browning Nitro
For my pocket, Browning Catalyst
Combined, I have tracked many friends deer with those.
I'm interested in this CREE lite. Will definitely check them out.

instead of paying the over inflated prices for fenix, surefire, streamlights (except for a TLR-1s), etc. I usually get my frick around lights from DealExtreme.com. If you look on the left hand side of the link you can search lights by type and battery (pay attention to the battery your chosen light takes). Cree is gonna be your brightest. Lumens is the rating assigned to "brightness". I bet your little Cabelas light is only about 25 Lumens, while your buddy's streamlight is probably more like 120 lumens. One of the lights I just got off dealextreme is something like 230 Lumens and will shine clear all the way down the street.
One caveat about that site though is they are located and ship from Hong Kong or China and it takes about 3 weeks to receive your package. So, whenever I order from them I take advantage of it and get several and also some of the other smaller stuff they offer like iPod cords (identical to the apple one) for $1.50.

Streamlight, Surefire, and Coast are some of the best IMO. I have a Streamlight Nano on my keys and that tiny arse thing will nearly light up a room.
Puts out 10 lumens...not bad for a tiny little light.

Hopefully you're not on public hunting lands doing this - too many "brush shooters" out there. From a pure safety aspect, a light is not necessarily for you to see but for others to see you with it. Just makes no sense for someone to walk around in the woods in the dark without a light on during hunting season.

Didn't read the thread, but I use a streamlight...
Never had any complaints with mine...

insight 120 lumens
I have this one. It's amazing. I was worried I overspent on the thing until we were looking for a bloodtrail one night in S. Texas. Little bitty flashlight putting out like an enormous spotlight.

I just use a clip-on LED light for my cap bill.
Speaking of flashlights, this reminds me of deer hunting one morning at Tensas NWR and trying to find my damn stand that I had set up the day earlier. This was before GPS and they didn't let you use flagging. It seemed like every directions I pointed my damn light there was 10 shining back at me from the damn trees. I remember thinking how ridiculous it was in those woods. No deer could have survived within a square mile of that section of woods. LOL.
I ended up giving up trying to find my stand and sat on the ground against a tree. A couple hours later, a spike ran across me and I shot and killed it (from sitting on my arse next to a tree).
Lucky me I guess.
