But I mean, surely opening it now would reduce the water level sitting on the levees in BR (which I understand the length of time increases the likelihood of failure)? At the same time, everything in the spillway will be flooded at some point anyhow.

Friend of mine works for corps, said if they don't open Saturday it will open itself basically via topping. Plan on this being done Saturday

It would reduce it by like a foot or two

But the BR levees are in zero danger right now. So, no reason to do it yet.

It hasnt even gotten to the 08 levels get I think...
