if there's all of these exceptionally talented dudes walking around that could be signed to minimum contracts, i imagine some enterprising GM would have exploited it by now?

Who is the Louisiana HS kid this past year that was supposedly freak athlete but just kept getting arrested, so no one offered him and IIRC was arrested the day before or after NSD for breaking into someones house?
Whomever it was, without an actual place to train and practice at, it is stupid to think he could in 3-4 years be an effective NFL ready physically or skill set.

I wouldn't bother hiring them. I mean, I'd much rather have a bench warmer/role player that went through the paces and confirmed to society, rather than some thug that I have to go hunting for. I'd imagine that you'd have to sift through 100k ballers just to find one guy that at best would give you 15 minutes a game of averageness.

Lee is going to have that market cornered in a few weeks.
People think that street agent Will Lyles got paid, imagine what Lee can get paid for finding the next 100 Andre Johnson's, or a NBA playoff team made up of guys all playing for the minimum

I don't know but my husband and I went to a YMCA in Detroit while visiting family and there was a guy probably 6'8, could drain shots from anywhere, super quick, and could get his elbow above the rim. He dominated people his size that were also good. The story was that he was in juvy from 14 to 17 then never graduated high school.

How many 6'6-6'9 people were playing at this YMCA in Detroit to be able to say he was dominating ? I know Detroit is a big city but 6'8 isn't exactly a normal size to see in everyday life.

There are probably NO street ballers out there with the skill or ability to play in the NBA... Now they may have had the athletic potential at some point, but the amount of training and development required to make in the league must begin in H.S. and continue to develop with age or they wont make it....
I have several friends who played 4 years of H.S. basketball, and from a playground perspective, I've had people pick me over them for games because on the playground, scoring is the only thing that matters. But they have training in other aspects of basketball that I will never know/grasp because they played 4 years of ball, everyday. Probably more B-ball than most have played in their lives on a playground. And things like defensive positioning, boxing out, rebounding, body positioning, passing, team offense, and team defense, press, breaking the press, etc. are equally important as scoring in REAL basketball..
Ex. I'm probably better than my roommate 1 on 1 and with scoring on the playground in small games. But he played point guard for 4 years of h.s. ball and started his jr./sr. for terrebone in Houma, he's far better all around, anytime we play with teams he usually wins, it f-ing drives me crazy...
Ex. You could find several guys in NYC that can probably run faster, and dribble as well as Barea for the Mavericks... But what would those guys do if you threw them a ball and told them to break the press? They would get owned because they lack the training, its not easy, nobody presses Steve Nash b/c they know he'll beat it all game... Its not like any loser can bring the ball done the court without getting checked for no reason...
this guy has excellant skills offensively, I would def. beleive that. Still doesnt make him NBA ready, the training and skill development he missed while in juvy ruined his career

Laugh all you want but my husband is 6'4 and there were only 2 guys shorter. 5 guys were around his size and the remaining 8 or so were taller. A few were significantly taller.
ETA: they ran circles around him and he played division 1 in brec/braba.

If a guy couldn't pass high school or stay out of jail he can't play in the NBA. If someone has drug problems they won't make it with lots of money coming their way.
Also the most underrated thing about the NBA is how quick you have to get shots off. It's the same comparing a good high school or college QB to the NFL. When everyone is 6'6" to 7' it's a lot harder to get a decent look. I mean look at JJ Reddick I doubt there is a person on a hood court that can shoot that well and he is a role player at best.

This thread is hilarity. Let's think about the epice ballers from the NCAA who didn't succeed in the NBA. And some of those guys even played marginal defense. Now look at the street ballers who don't play defense.
Everyone in the NBA can score. You make it or break it (usually) by playing d. Street ballers lack the discipline to play at a high level. That's why they aren't in the league.
