Any Tiger fans plan on congregating at a bar by the stadium prior to game time? For those of us that have to fly in and can't bring the appropriate tailgating setup.

not too many bars close to the stadium, keglers is close, damons isnt far, never been in either of those places though for pregame so I have no idea what the crowds would be like, if you're looking for a bar pregame, you might have better luck getting a group together downtown, somewhere on High street, as the rest of the city will be by the stadium tailgating. when it gets close to kickoff you can just ride the prt (from either the beechurst or walnut st stations) to the medical station. the prt is free on weekends and will run for an hour after the game is over on saturday night. heres a map of downtown for ya.

The Varsity Club is the only bar that's really right next to the stadium, but it will be extremely packed.

If you're looking for good beer in Morgantown your best bet is Jays Getaway which is downtown next door to the PRT station. Jays is a real craft beer bar, no liquor, just beer and wine, they pretty much carry the best beer you can find in WV. Second is Gibbys Pub on High street, they have about 25ish taps with a decent mix of micros in there, plus full bar and kitchen with live music. Its like stepping back into 1986 when you walk into Gibbys though, seriously the place looks like it hasn't changed in 25 years.

Keep in mind West Virginia is a beer wasteland when it comes to craft beer, kinda like Louisiana was 5 years ago, so don't get your hopes up for finding a bunch of good stuff. Pittsburgh is only an hour away and has a couple world class craft beer bars if you're into that sort of thing.

The brewpub downtown is just okay...

So it sounds like a majority of you will be tailgating by the Coliseum? If so, I'll definitely have to stop by and say a friendly hello

come on by, man...you guys have been big-time helpful on here....

ETA: I see that the shuttles, PRT, etc. only run for an hour after the game....is the crowd cleared out that quickly?....

Carson Street in the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh is pretty much the nightlife hub of the city. I live in the neighborhood and being a total beer geek I tend to frequent

Smokin Joes - 61 beers on tap, all good stuff, best wings in the city imo(try the smokin parm).

Fat Heads - Known nation wide for their own Head Hunter IPA, they also have a very impressive selection of draft beer(around 40 taps). They make some killer sandwiches and have a bottle shop too.

Hofbräuhaus - This location is modeled after the original location in Munich I believe. It holds like 500 people and being that it's Oktoberfest right now it's sure to be crazy. They have about 8ish beers all brewed in house, all traditional German Hofbräuhaus recipes. Not my favorite place, but definitely worth a look see.

Honorable mentions include: Pipers Pub on Carson St and the Sharp Edge Bistro downtown.

I typically like to eat whatever the locals eat when in an area....is there any particular fare that is popular in the Pittsburgh and Morgantown areas?....

I grew up in Baton Rouge and lived in Lafayette for 6 years before moving up here to Pittsburgh a couple years ago so I know good food and I can honestly say that for this region, food is not their strong suit.

Pittsburgh is very heavy on pub style food, being that it's a large city there are plenty of good restaurants around, but few things are uniquely Pittsburgh. Most of the fine dining places tend to be internationally inspired. The (un)offical food of Pittsburgh has definitely got to be perogies though, and Perogies Plus in McKees Rocks makes the best.

Morgantown on the other hand is a very small "city" and has a lot less to offer. I hear there are a couple of really legit Italian restaurants in town(perhaps some of the motown locals can chime in).
I have had some good meals in Morgantown, but the majority of what I have had has been somewhat disappointing. To be honest, its just a regional thing, and the farther you get from the urban areas the worse the food gets, which is kind of the opposite of what you experience growing up in south Louisiana.

In Pittsburgh I would definately say to get Primanti Bro's. Its what you'll hear about anytime there is a Pitt/Steelers game and they talk about food.

this is the kind of info that I am looking for...I'm not a fancy food type of guy, but typically like to eat whatever the locals take pride in....

I spend lots of days in small towns and find food that I like pretty much everywhere I go...I'm expecting morgantown to be no different...thanks to both you and Northern for your suggestions....

As a NOLA native/LSU alum now living in Morgantown, I can say WV isn't known for their food, but there are a few decent places to eat here in Morgantown. WVUbrandon mentioned several... I'd say to get a good 'Morgantown feel' be sure to check out Black Bear Burritos - not like mexican burritos, more like wraps. Anyway, lots of good beer and often free live music at night.

Also like Maxwell's and eat pretty regularly at both breweries. Oliverios is decent italian with nice outdoor seating and if you wanted higher-end dining, I'd say Sargosso is one of the best restaurants. (but kind of pricey)

Again, as long as you keep in mind that this isn't southern LA/NOLA and you don't expect that level of food, you won't be too disappointed.

Can anyone recommend a good easy to moderate hiking trail at Coopers Rock?

lsu_grl: glad to hear some LSU visitors will be checking out Cooper's Rock. Too bad the weather isn't going to cooperate this weekend, but it's still a beautiful place to see.

There's a very easy/mellow/flat trail along the main park road - Roadside Trail.

But I'd recommend parking at the Overlook parking lot, do the short walk to the overlook, and then go hiking on the Rock City trail. Rock City is really cool and worth the walk. If feeling a little more adventurous, hike the Rattlesnake Trail - narrow trail alongside the mountain, with lots of cool rock formations, and many rock scrambling opportunities.

The map on the cooper's website is pretty good. Have a great time!

Thanks for the info! Hopefully the weather holds off on Sunday. Plan on hiking at Coppers Rock & then finishing up the day at the Forks of Cheat Winery.

Coopers has some beautiful and easy trails... my absolute favorite is just across the interstate from the main section of coopers rock.... it's a virgin hemlock forest (meaning this was a protected area from logging way back so the trees are hundreds of years old) and the trail is very easy, and follows along a solid sedimentary rock stream bed...

Clay run is another beautiful trail and its relatively easy which is located from the main entrance to the park.

you can read more about them here

here are some pics of the two trails as well:

Virgin Hemlock Trail

Clay Run Trail:

Clay Run Trail 2:

however, first off, before hiking anything, i recommend the overlook at coopers. The clay run trail will be fairly easy to navigate from that side of the park but if you want to try the virgin hemlock trail just be wary that the entrance to the trail is not very well marked and its across the interstate from the main park, so you have to really watch for it, the approximate entrance to the trail is on the map below.

Bars/clubs/brewpubs
This is all you need to know. To rank the sports bars

Sports Bars
1. Keglers-close to the stadium
2. Sports Page-Downtown
3. Varsity club- Next to the stadium, will be swamped
4. Brickyard Pub-Downtown
5. Damons-close to the stadium (chain but it has a bar and good appetizers. Good place to watch the games)

Bars/Clubs (almost all downtown)
