A question for all the older Tiger fans

Was it more fun and less stressful to be a fan before the internet/rant/recruiting sites or do you enjoy this better?
Just curious as to how most of you feel about the internet and its impact on you as an LSU fan?

We learn more about the players and teams because of the internet, definitely more fun.

Instant gratification is what it is. Back in the Stone Age, we would read about the game in the Sunday paper, and wait for the Tiger Rag to hit the mailbox around the middle of the week.
If there were any HUGE developments during the week or in the off-season, it would be on the TV nightly news... or maybe on the radio.
We survived.

It was less stressful back in the day. Sure, there wasn't as much info running around, but there also wasn't the incessant bitching and whining about every little thing. For me, sports 20 years ago was funner in the sense that it seemed to be more about supporting the team, win or lose...and being happy just as long as the team played hard and gave a good game. If you won, you got to celebrate for a week, and if you lost, it was like "ok...let's just go get em next Saturday". It isn't even close to being like that any more, and in that sense, I miss the old days.

See, I kinda liked the mystery and intrigue back in the 80's-90's, when the players were a little bigger than life and you didn't know every little useless nugget of information about them...like a guy said above, "we survived" without knowing every little thing.

Yeah, we survived, but we didn't know the possibilities you know now. I don't think anyone could go back to that now.

Better, or not better? Hmmmm.
Well, I don't remember anyone stressing all the time about whether or not Art Cantrelle got into another fight, or if Bert Jones was attending class or not, and it's a damn good thing that Maravich's college lifestyle wasn't under a microscope.
It's nice to have the ability for more access, but in a lot of ways it seems to be turning today's kids into pussies.
Simply put, there are some things you just don't need to know, and there are some things that are better you don't know. Some of you kids definitely stress too much about stupid $hit (borderline stalkers)... but that probably has something to do with all of the anti-depressant drugs that you're all prescribed.

There are definite downsides to the internet and football, mainly recruiting. Some folks stalk these guys on facebook and twitter and it is really creepy. Still, the availability of recruiting info makes the offseason better. In the old days, it was one huge mystery.

Times infinity.
Was talking to a guy my dad's age, was reminiscing about what the 50's were like with low oil prices, everything made in the USA, great service...
And he asked me, would I give up everything we have now...internet, pc's, cell phones, facebook, etc to have what they had back then?
I had to say no. He said he wouldn't either.

I dont feel that I can constructively comment on the 80's or 90's because I cant remember them.

Internet has allowed 24/7 access to all things LSU... I mean I use to only read the Advocate reports on spring practice. Now I can get practice reports from various sites.
I can follow LSU recruiting, future schedules, and read up on what the players are doing.

I find it to be a real pain having to sift through so many people's inflated egos to find decent/interesting info today.

But, to the poster who wrote this:
quote:I disagree somewhat. There was plenty of bitching and whining at the games, during the tailgating, and after church on Sundays. It wasn't in print or available for the casual observer to read, but it was there in casual conversations everywhere.
there also wasn't the incessant bitching and whining about every little thing.
So to the OP, it's better and worse, IMO. The things we wish we didn't know are out there for everyone to judge. The casual conversations that include bitching and whining are to plentiful to quantify-and often uninformed. On the other hand, you can get information 24/7 and don't have to rely on one resource-the Advocate or the Tiger Rag-for information.

Agreed. That 'Tiger Rag' on Wednesday (subscription) or Thursday at the K&B was critical.
Recruting news was limited to one or two early subscription lists such as Max Emfinger. You got very little news outside of the original 'best' 100 recruits nationwide and no updates.
Stress and anxiety are caused by not knowing. The Internet cured that forever.

It would be better now if there weren't so many little whiny bitches complaining about every little thing. They even bitch about what people wear to games...
