On Pulling McCune

I know the coach M knows best, and his judgments have usually been sound and profitable, but I was left really scratching my head when he pulled KM so early.
I know CSF had just gotten across a few runs, but there is no way KM can be blamed for those. He would have continued to mow through hitters had the infield not had its collective head up its arse.
I just can't see why PM would pull a pitcher who was still consistently throwing strikes. And a pitcher who, at that, throws with a velocity that is conducive to longer outings.

It wasn't a decision to get someone on the mound who could be more effective.
His pitch count was at 109 and we haven't hit SEC play yet.

Please refrain from making future baseball posts if all you can do is question the coach for pulling a pitcher with that pitch count. I would bet that PM knows his players a little better than you especially after reading your statement. It cracks me up the way being able to post suddenly makes people into SEC caliber coaches.

you probably subscribe to the Hawthorne train of thought that 65 pitches through 3 innings isnt very high

shite thats when they pull pitchers in the majors, much less a college freshman.

In the CWS Mainieri might have left him in a little longer. He also might have chosen to put in pitchers other than Cotton and Berry in relief, and might have let Dykstra carry his momentum into the 9th. It's March.
