This is true he isn't Blount, but my point is the 40 is not as important for bigger backs.

Blount is the biggest back in the NFL. Comparing him to a 5'11" 225 Ridley is a bit silly.

The 40 is the most overrated part of the combine. Theres a difference between straight line speed with no pads and football speed with pads.

Overrated to who? You? Kids make/lose millions each year based on their 40 time at the combine.

That said, Ridley is a fighter, he will find a way on an NFL roster.

Ridley will make a 53-man roster and will have a successful NFL career because he's a great special teams player who can hit and tackle in coverage. He was too valuable to play ST for LSU this past year, but his previous work was outstanding.

I've said before that he would be a 6th round pick, and I still think that.

So he's better than Charles Scott?

If Steven Ridley doesn't play in the Cotton Bowl, Texas A&M wins the game. Ridley made the right decision leaving LSU having nothing else to gain. The fact is simple and easy to understand. If Ridley works hard and avoids another knee injury, he will make a ballclub. If he keeps his mind straight and develops a passion to learn his roles and carries a positive attitude, he can succeed no matter what his 40 time. If he makes a team and pulls a J.Russell, he better have another job in store. I think his attitude and desire to learn will make or break him as a player in the NFL. It is up to him. Good luck Mr.Ridley.

I just don't see it. He has a very average set of skills in every department. He was a good college player but didn't ever show anything that dictates a long, productive NFL career. If me makes a team it will be special teams and backup.

I can't imagine anyone actually thought Ridley would run sub 4.6

This is the rant. Ridley is not a huge back by anybody's measure, and while I don't think its going to make a huge difference, the reason its not going to is hes an UDFA waiting to happen.

Dominick Davis ran a 4.75 and ran for 1000 yards in each of is first two seasons in the NFL before he was hurt. He was also a lot smaller.

point being that many teams don't feature a back any longer, but have several that fit different roles. Look at the Packers for example, Kuhn was very valuable for them down the stretch, and was an undrafted FA out of Shippensburg.

I think they are very similar/close in talent. I also think they will have similar careers in the NFL.

I completely agree with this. There are only 7-8 feature backs in the NFL. Just saying the 1600 yard home run hitter still exists.

All the best to Stevan Ridley, but I'm asking this question too.

Because there is a very good chance he loses his starting job and doesn't put up 1k yards on SEC defenses again?

successful NFL career because he's a great special teams player

This. He is outstanding on special teams and he seems like he has the desire to make a roster anyway he can. What is really going to help/hurt him is his show of ball catching skills in the drills
