A disappointing program where the players show little improvement and some become malcontents. Little hope for getting back on top and a coach, who aside from becoming unpopular, looks like he is moving in the wrong direction. The coach has won many games at other places but doesn't seem to get the LSU culture. I'm obviously talking about basketball, right? Actually I am describing Coach Manierri's start at LSU. Sometimes to rebuild a little time may be needed. Maybe Coach Johnson can get it done with a little time. If not, next up.

Those two situations couldn't be any more different.

You're trying too hard.

he may be stretching...but you can look at old threads from his first year...and plenty of people were ready to run PM out of town because "this is LSU not ND"

Mid-way through that second year there was some pretty harsh stuff being thrown down. Some of it even personal shots relating to his mannerisms even. Notre Dame coach with no sense of our traditon here.

Even those still on his side were rationalizing that it would take until 2011 before we would have the talent to make it back to the CWS.

The difference is he turned it around that year. He actually had some talent.

Trent's has two guys on the roster right now who will with certainty IMHO be decent to good SEC ball players and they are freshmen. He ain't turnin' nothing around with that and it's mostly on him at this point.

Man...I hope all the guys comin in next year can play cause this sure ain't no fun.

Um, in Maineri's third year at LSU he won the National Title.

In Johnson's third year he is producing the worst team in the SEC.

It took Mainieri a season and a half to rebuild. So by this Trent's time is up.

That goes both ways. You throw out the not getting the LSU culture stuff and you could also be talking about Smoke Laval.

How about this one...Coach K's 3rd year 11-17 overall and 3-13 in the ACC....38-47 in his first three years at Duke having taken over for a team that won 24 games the year before he got there and played in the national title game two years previous.

Bobby Knight's boy forced on us by the General with no clue of the ACC brand of hoops.

We could throw out the cute anologies all day an make them sing...bottom line Trent's gonna have to show something next year or I can't see him continuing...and that's fair. I personally hope he shows something. I want him to succeed. But I also want basketball to be relevant again here.

given the enormous difference in lsu fan support for baseball vs. basketball (i.e., best in the country vs. pathetic), it will probably take more time to turn around the basketball program.

You'll get your wish because all three can play. O'Bryant is a big strong kid who will bang inside with the best in the SEC. Needs to work on a face-up game but he can get to the rack. Hamilton played very well at ISU against the great front-courts of Kansas and Oklahoma. He will be the first true center the Tigers have had in years. He is a good shooter, tough rebounder and rugged defender. Isaac is a kid who will surprise some folks because he committed very early, got injured and has flown under the radar nationally. He has the body of an LSU wide-receiver, about 6'3" and 210 lbs. Very athletic and can shoot the three as well are better than the three freshmen guards this year. Two definite starters with the big guys and a two-guard who will be in the regular rotation IMO.

Man, I hope you're right Randy...cause I heard the same about White and Dotson and it wasn't true.

I've seen some tape. He's athletic but raw, but even if all he does is block shots and rebound I'll take it.

His numbers on a bad ISU team look to similar to White's so I'm from Missouri on this one.

I've heard good things about him from folks not associated with LSU and in games where he's played up in competition. This is an example of a kid who hasn't been hyped who I think is gonna be a keeper.

Still need a PG...poor Stringer just can't dribble. I've heard mixed reports on whether we are trying to get a JUCO point. I hate JUCO's as much as the next guy but with the offense Trent runs we hav no choice IMHO.

And TJ may not be done for this season either, I know he was in Miss. recruiting this week, and one rumor has it that he is looking at a JUCO PG to add to the class.

IMO until we get a new coach we are not going anywhere. I watched the demeanor on the bench the other night vs. bama and it was terrible. Our guys look beat before we even start. No pep, everyone is slouched, TJ whines about every call, sits there with his arms crossed with a look of disgust on his face. Anthony Grant on the other hand was coaching every play. On another note I saw and SEC official in the airport the other day and talked to him at length about the SEC and LSU. He's been officiating college bb for 26 years, and has been to four final fours. He has refereed all over the country this year and told me the SEC is not what it was five years ago. He told me LSU is the most unatheletic team he could ever remember, and certainly the worst he has ever seen at LSU. The talk amongst the officials on TJ is he's a whiner who thinks every call is wrong and not very well respected. He didn't have a whole lot of good things to say about TJ. It was interesting getting his opinion cause this guy was a character. For what it's worth.
