PS3 YLOD Repair

Where is the best place in BR to get this repaired and how much is this going to cost me?

Repaired as in reballed and the sodering is all fixed or repaired as in some guy fixing it temporarily to get to through the week or trade it in?

Either you're being a smartass or you have no idea the difference in the ways you can get it fixed.
You can pay someone to redo all the soldering on the motherboards. That's a permanent legitimate fix but it's costly. It's called getting your motherboard reballed.
Next option is to send it back to Sony.
Other option is to let someone open it up very carefully so as to not mess up the warranty seal. Then they can clean everything and reflow the motherboard. All that does is basically use a heatgun to heat up the processors and let them cool and settle in the proper place. It's a temporary fix, and it's best only to do it if you are about to buy a new ps3, just want to back up your data, or want to trade it in to gamestop while still appearing to work.

Postman, how much longer will reballing the proccesor last in comparison to reflow. cause i reflow mine about 1 a month.

Reballing it would be a more substantial fix because it would replace the faulty solder(lead free) with good solder. I can't do it, it takes some nice equipment and know how. I can only reflow them as I've had to learn to fix the one I broke.

i bought mine in 08, have reflown it about 6 times. now my damn blutooth bored isnt working. so im thinking of just getting a new one. i hear the new ones are having problems too though.

In the few months that I've had a slim, it's never overheated. It runs more quietly. My dad (who got it for me) bought the extended warranty and I got a cooling unit for when I run it for over 3 hours. Totalled that's like $50(30warranty+20fan) but to me it's worth the peace of mind.
I'd just start saving for a new one and be sure to grab an extended warranty. From now on, when I buy a new console it'll have the 2 year extended warranty. All my friends from own that got ylod on a fatty haven't had a slim fail.

This is what I'm wondering, I bought mine in 2007, I have a 60 GB system, and havent had a problem. Do you all just use the system way too much? I use it alot, but Im guessing maybe I know when to cut it off and go outside?

Me and my old roomate got ours around the same time. he got the 40 gb and i got the 80 gb. his is still running strong after almost 4 years. the reason i think mine overheated and his didnt is because i played massive amounts of online gaming and he didnt but he also leaves his on for days.
that is my theory because if i reflow it and play online, it will overheat after about 6 or 7 hours of play total. thats not all at once. if i dont play online but still play a game i get around 20 hours of play before it overheats.
its all dependent on how you use it. but the 8 different models of the ps3 all have different motherboard designs and different parts.

Don't lie to yourself, it takes 1-2 weeks to get the box to ship it in, and 2-3 weeks to get it back to you from repairs. Both first generations were faulty. It just took ps3's a little longer to be known
