I want to buy a boat, but not sure what will suit my needs the best.

I'll mainly use it for fishing and yoyo'ing in medium size lakes. But it would be nice if it would fit in a decent size bayou as well.

What yall think for size, style, and motor?

Look into an xpress or a newer tracker. Smaller investment and you will find out if boating is for you then you can upgrade to something else if you like. And the smaller xpress's and tractors are easier to sell if you want to upgrade or get out from under the boat all together.

16-18 should fit you nicely. We have a 17.5' Nitro with a 90 horse on it. Does everything we need it to do.

I'll take that into consideration.

I'll look them up, but I know I want a boat. I'm sick of borrowing my Dads.

Look into a War Eagle or something similar. You need an aluminum boat for your needs. Ask your favorite BIL, I am sure he even has one laying around for sale.

I previously owned a 16ft all alum express side console w/ 40 hp 4stroke yamaha. (upgraded to bay boat when I moved south). I did same type of fishing. smaller is better for yoyos but you still want some room to be comfortable. I'd say 14-16ft aluminum, err on the side of a bigger motor. a 40 4stroke would only top out at about 28mph w/ a full load on my 16ft.

If you're gonna be doing more yoyoing than fishing, I'd go all alum and no carpet. vice versa if using it more for fishing.

Is there any other advantage to a 4 stroke other than the noise?

An 18 ft is kinda big for the bayous. A Cajun Special type of boat sounds like what you're needing.

Someone mentioned WarEagle brand. They're supposed to be good but whatever you do, no rivets.

This and if they are MFG. post 2005 they can handle ethanol. Ethanol in boats is no small consideration.

Depends on if you want to mix gas in your tank each time you need it or just pump gas in the tank and roll on. 2 stroke and you will have to always keep up with the oil. 4 stroke has gas in the reservoir in the motor. To each their own really.
