Sony Sound Bar vs. Bose Cinemate Series II

Going back and forth, and need some advice...

Mounting a 55" LED above the fireplace in the living room and need a sound system to go with it.

I have a Bose Cinemate in my media room, and love it, but it's six years old.

The Sony HT-CT350 ( LINK) looks to be a good system, for less than half the price. Anyone have one of these that can give experience on it?

I'd rather save the money if I can with the Sony, but I don't want a tinny, canned sound that most soundbars are infamous for. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

ETA: The local Best Buy doesn't have one hooked up that I can reference.

neither....both are garbage.

cant you put discreet speakers up?

everything else including all the BOSE marketing is not good.

its cheaper and better to do real speakers not plastic.

I actually have the Sony soundbar you are referencing. I have it hooked up to my 50" panasonic plasma in my living room. I actually really like it, not sure why the anger from the second poster. It puts out great sound and can get really loud while maintaining good quality. The only drawback is the subwoofer is a little quiet, but it puts out enough subtle bass to let you know it's there. I would definitely recommend if you aren't looking to install a full blown speaker system in your walls.

I went to best buy yesterday looking at the different ones, they had the bose, sony, polk and insignia. They all sounded comparable to me.

Well then I go to Barnes and Nobles and read the new 2011 Consumer Reports book. It had all 3 of the new Vizio models rated way about any of those other models, including the sony and bose. I'd really have to hear it to believe it though.

FWIW the book said the 5.1 channel vizio was the best one.

No anger, I just hate seeing people buy based on Marketing and hype.

Anybody that does ANY homework quickly will find out the "mass merchant" brands cater to people that dont know any better.

Bose, Sony and Monster Cable pretty much explain it all.

Go to www.avsforum.com and just look around, you will get a better idea of what to buy.

I have the Bose, as posted, and it sounds great. I'm a self acknowledged audiophile, and there is nothing wrong with the quality or performance of Bose. It's just expensive, and that pisses people off, similar to Apple and its haters.

I've done my homework. I can't afford the space considerations or in ceiling/wall install of a 5.1 or 7.1 system. I have a 16X16 Living Room with a bay window (it's weird shaped) and no back wall that opens to a breakfast area. I need a 2.1 system. It's better than the 15Wx2 speakers on the Samsung LED.

I'll give you Monster. Today a Best Buy I saw an "Ultra Series" 8' HDMI cable for $130. $130!! Idiots buy that. Monoprice.com Got a 15' High Speed CL2 HDMI w/Silver Plating for $15.

That place is full of trolls and flamers. I can't stand it.
