LSU was late making a charge for Russ, but they did offer. Russ wanted to go to LSU early in the game, but became disillusioned when LSU didn't step up. He committed to Ark, then decommitted to accept Texas's offer. Mack Brown promised he Russ would be their starting kicker as a true freshman (lying sack...!) and Russ bit.

LSU swayed him after their offer, but not enough to change his mind. However Russ never got any encouragement from Evangel coaches towards LSU.

it's all about competition. if rasco wants to play in the best league to prepare him for the n.f.l. then he'll come to the s.e.c.

if he rather not, then he'll go to f.s.u. where the competition isn't as tough.
