I prefer a drop point for the right hande with the first 3" sharpened with a 22.5 angle or greater with the rear 6" recieving a jagged sharpening.
for a work knife i prefer a gerber gator, and every day carry in the pocket a spec warrior tanto edge

I don't like serrated simply because I have a hard time sharpening them.

Straight edge. I've cut myself a few times behind the serrated edge getting hung up on stuff. The old people never had one because they never needed it.
They are really good for stripping wires though...
