Advice; shoulder or skull

Short version: My first nice 8. Should I skull or shoulder?
Full version (with :csb:): For years I've been a cull buck magnet. I've killed a couple with one nice side, but one screwed up side. This continued on Friday, when a nice (supposed) 10 pt walked by with a doe. He was broke off at the brow tine on one side. I didn't take him.
The next a.m., I kept hearing does flush in a gum thicket about 90 yards away. They were upwind, so it wasn't me. After I got down, I slipped over to check it out, and heard a snort/wheeze about 40 yards through the thicket. I hit my grunt and here he come. I couldn't see him till he came trotting around a tree about 10 yards out with his head down looking to kick some arse. He was probably thinking, "I'm gonna kick that half-racked bastard's arse."
We were face to face for a millisecond, and he split. I saw him through a hole in the thicket, but the shot was marginal at best so I restrained myself. I watched him hook a tree through the brush and decided that he was not leaving the area b/c of the does. So, I slipped out, and came back that afternoon to move my stand before the hunt (very slowly and methodically).
About 4:30 I heard him flush the does, and I grunted, but he wouldn't come in. He chased them through the thicket, and when he was downwind of me, he stopped. I hit the grunt again, and being able to walk into the wind, he was braver. He came in, pegged me, but was distracted by the tinks on the branch beside me. So, when he dropped his head, I got him.
He's my first symetrical 8 (i.e. not screwed up on one side). Although he's not a monster, its nice to get that first one, especially with the back story. I'm trying to decide whether to shoulder mount him (at my wife's urging), or skull mount him. I've got neither so far. What say ya'll.

Skull. Is he about 15 inches?

Shoulder mount if you consider him a trophy, especially if he is your first trophy. My first nice buck was about that size and I shoulder mounted him.
I do like the way skull mounts look, did that on my last 8.
Sound like ya'll have a lot of bucks where you hunt, so I'd put him in the freezer until the season is over to make sure you don't kill a bigger one.

i'm not a fan of the skull... if i don't head mount, i put them on a nice routed board, with cotton, covered in felt..

If you have the potential to shoot a bigger deer on your lease/property then skull mount, if this is about as big as yall kill on your place then shoulder mount him.
Bottom line its your deer and your money do whatever will piss the wife off the most....

Faxis hate to high jack the thread but what type of mount base is that. Need to figure out a way to show my daughters off.

I would go with skull mount. Nice deer.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards skull--and I plan to put in in my office next to a mount of my first wood duck.
I like the way they are doing the new skulls with the angled base.
Most of my life I've hunted piney woods where they don't get much bigger than this. But, this deer was killed on a piece of land that I hunt twice a year. It has great deer , and over the last few years I've let several 8 pts walk that were smaller than him. But he was good enough for me to pop the 8 pt cherry, and Dad said he was surprised I waited as long as I did.

All I hunt is piney woods and they don't even get that big down here. And, the clubs to our east and west shoot small bucks so our selection here is shite. Buck:doe ratio here is even shittier

It's a rock.
I just filled the cranium with epoxy and drilled a hole in it. Drilled a hole in the rock. Put a stainless rod in between.
TADA! Deer bobblehead.

Look hoss, if your wife WANTS a shoulder mount, DO IT! There are alot of men out there that have to fight, claw, a miss hunts for mall trips if they want to get a real mount. Kudos on killing a nice deer and having a badass wife
