Carr is probably about as influential at Michigan as an ex coach can be at a program.. he has been around for 30 years he coached under bo and moeller he also was very successful. He also knows all the boosters and everyone that has any say that goes on within the program and they all respect him very much.

Former Colorado coach and Michigan assistant Bill McCartney, one of Miles’ coaching mentors, said he sent an e-mail to Miles on Monday imploring him to take the Michigan job. “I wrote, ‘From one Michigan man to another, go build them back up,”’ McCartney said Tuesday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “I’m really disappointed he didn’t take the premier job in all of sports.” McCartney, who took Miles with him from Michigan to Colorado in 1982, said it was “semantics” whether Miles was officially offered the job by athletic director Dave Brandon during their face-to-face meeting Monday in Baton Rouge. “When you get on a plane with your wife to go talk to a guy like Dave Brandon did, you’re showing respect and you’re showing you’re very interested,” McCartney said. “I tried to tell Les to take the job, but obviously he didn’t and I can’t and won’t hide my disappointment.”

Really sad to see their 360 over being upset

Doing a 180 was the correct thing to say.

Doing a 360 means you wind up still facing the same direction.

Think about that, people.

I did not read any further than the second page, so this may have been said already.

I do know it was a very competitive offer. I am not sure of an exact dollar amount, but it was enough that Les had to take time to think about it.

Mafia I think the only part of your guess you may be close to correct is the money for Staff. It is very rare anyone outside the SEC pays assistants what they make here.

overpaying for a coach.

didnt I say something about every man having a number in his head??

quote:

a reasonable offer to most that was below Les' current Salary. I am not saying their intent was to use Les as some cover. I think honestly, they figured to offer him what they felt was reasonable (I'd guess around $2.5M to $3M/year) with less guaranteed money than he has here.

and yet.....

The Michigan offer was more than he makes but by a small amount

quote:

Why is that so hard to grasp?

because it's irrational, illogical and ridiculous. To think that the AD of Michigan took a corporate jet all the way to Baton Rouge to purposely mislead a coaching candidate into a job opportunity, to intentionally mislead another professional individual with a financial package that was less than he's making already all under the guise of some homegrown PR campaign is about the stupidest thing anyone has ever written on this board. You may want to check yourself for brain damage

quote:

I am sure LSU's AD and board freaked and pulled a Bertman overpaying AGAIN to keep Miles.

you sure? are you certain a deal has been re-worked yet again?

Ummmm.... Michigan doesn't drop dime like LSU. They may be desperate, but I seriously doubt they are Skip Bertman/Sean O'keefe desperate.

The overpaying part is simply the idea of paying a ridiculous amount over the coaches current value.

Bama did it with Saban. Vandy was trying to do it with Malzahn.

Les' salary is already overpaid, but they have to match it. He's not going to leave for the same basic salary. It was going to have to be a significant raise.

Instead, LSU got stupid again, and let Les and his agent rape them if what BelowPar said was true. $26.25M basically guaranteed is utterly stupid.

Clearly they wanted to talk with Harbaugh first, then Miles and would have hired either. But who cares? They got the best coach they could and I'm happy it's worked out for everyone including Hoke. Now get behind Miles even if he wants to keep Crowton. Crowton also has not had a good QB to work with the past 3 years. If we sputter again next year on offense with a healthy Mett then maybe then we look at a new OC. The A&M game proved when our QB plays well Crowton's play calling is as good as any OC.

Where was this said, posted, stated? There is a bunch of talk going on about the CLM contract changes being more accomodating to LSU than the current one. But talk is talk and I doubt there are but a very few people know what is in the deal.

The whole "We didn't make Harbaugh or Miles an offer" charade is just embarrassing to Michigan.

Not only is their AD an idiot, he's a liar.

Are their posters any more impressive than LSU's? Because, if NO......hardly a mensa meeting taking place on their boards.

Its all in the semantics.. did they have discussions like how much do you want would you take blah blah what kind of money do you want for assistants etc.. sure did michigan officially offer him the job probably not because they never do until the coach says I will accept because no school wants to be turned down like that... If Miles had said he would accept what their last unofficial offer was then he would have been offered officially if you understand what im saying.. he was offered the job and they negotiated the price but since he didnt say yes he was at least not officially offered.

Wait...what? At this point, is that even the premier coaching spot in all of the Big 10?

Interesting, the Michigan guys were off on every prediction they made and not good to hear they were wrong about this too.

I am glad Les at least considered the offer. He's a good guy and I am disappointed we didn't get him. Looks like he's going to hang with LSU until retirement, and one can not blame him for that.
I think the Hoke choice is a good one. He's energetic and definitely wants to be Michigan HC. That right there gives him a great shot a being successful. Bo came from the MAC conference (Miami of OH), so who knows...
