Source says Miles wants to stay - with assurances

A source close to the LSU program and a friend of Miles has told me the mad hatter is not looking to leave Baton Rouge. But he would like to see a commitment from the administration that he's not going to be fired after an eight win season.

LSU did not roll over his contract or extend his deal after LSU won eight and nine games after the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In fact after the 2009 season, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva called the 2009 campaign a "nice season," but wanted more from the program.

Miles would be the first to admit LSU should play for championships every year, but if the Tigers come up short of that goal, he would like to see the administration stand behind him, instead of giving him a luke warm grade.
From 6:30 AM today. Sorry if already posted.

Seriously maybe Les just needs to go then, 8 win seasons shouldn't be acceptable here, and 9 win seasons these days when you play 13 is mediocre

So he wants to be assured that if he doesn't do his job properly, he wont get fired?

Instead of 8 wins is a maybe, make it 9 wins is guaranteed. Regular season only.

As an LSU fan, I try to be realistic, and I realize my alma mater won't win the NC every yr. At the same time, I get a less than warm and fuzzy feeling when I hear that our coach wants assurances "he won't be fired if he only wins 8 games." Wow, what an inspiring thing!

Sounds to me like Les was paying attention to all the rumblings within the fanbase the last couple years. As he should.

what a joke, Miles can get rid of a lazy qb but he can't be fired after an 8 win season?

That's funny.

Yeah. LSU fans aren't spoiled and never expect down years like every other team in the country.

It was a "nice" season.....but not worth $3.8 mill. I like Miles and want him to stay but he must make the difficult decision on Crowton and he cannot accept everyone to be happy at winning 8 games. I know every program will hit a bump in the road...but there is a difference not only in winning and how you win. Alleva is right..some of the wins were lucky.

it all comes down to making it to Atl next year.

If he does that, he can have his 8 win season the following year and get away unscathed.

HEY LES:

CAN YOU GIVE YOU A GUARANTEE THAT YOU'RE NEVER GOING TO:

1. F-UP THE CLOCK AND BLAME IT ON A PLAYER

2. HAVE OFFENSES FINISH 90TH OR WORSE THREE YEARS IN A ROW AND

3. GET RID OF CROWTON

Don't get confused by the fact that Michigan flew their plane down here (we don't even know that they offered). You've done some good things. But the reason yoou were going to be fired after eight wins if because you did some bat-shite crazy things and the whole world knows it.

lets not disuade the way in which lost some of those games

it's one thing to get outplayed on the field by a superior opponent - but he makes some boneheaded decisions that have cost us multiple games

shouldn't a "luke-warm" grade be deserved for a "luke-warm" coaching performance?

Alleva has said LSU will do whatever they can to keep Miles. Because of LSU's budget issues, it would be poor public relations to give Miles another half-a-million or million dollars more, even though state dollars are not used for coaches salaries.

Quote from the article for all the morons that keep saying the financial state of the university has no bearing on the ability to pay large amounts to buy out the coach.

For the last time... we know the school and the AD is separate but you aren't gonna see major devastating cuts to the university and at the same time huge payouts on the athletic side.

I know it's off topic but some people need reality. It's also a clue that LSU isn't gonna pay for a superstar...we'd go with the tried and true hire a coach from a lesser program that's up and coming.
