Dear Coach,
If UM decides to take Les from LSU, will you please consider becoming the new hc at LSU?

He's already turned down Kansas State, his alma mater. The relationship between AQ schools and non-AQ schools isn't what it used to be. Patterson was an assistant coach under Dennis Franchione. When Franchione left for Alabama, Patterson got promoted to head coach. Franchione is out of coaching now and Patterson makes more money now than Franchione made at either Alabama or Texas A&M. Chris Petersen was an assistant under Dan Hawkins when Hawkins left for Colorado. Hawkins is out of coaching now and Petersen makes more money than Hawkins ever made at Colorado. Coaches like Patterson and Petersen no longer assume that the grass is greener on the other side.
Also, this bit of news out of Boise: Brent Pease, the wide receiver coach is leaving to take a job as offensive coordinator at Indiana.

There was a time when there was no way that a Big Ten school would hire a WAC position coach to be a coordinator. The WAC coach would have had to have been at least a coordinator, if not a head coach to even be considered for a job as a coordinator at a Big Ten school. The day isn't far off when a head coach at an AQ school will leave to take a job as a head coach at a top tier non-AQ school.
