It's on my friends land and I told him it's a shooter what say the OB?

And is it the same deer? I assumed it was

Don't think it's the same deer. Probably 3 1/2 yr old. Will get bigger. Not quite a shooter.

Looks like pic #2 has one more point than #1, but #1 has a bigger rack. I would let #2 walk. As far as #1, it depends on what type of deer are considered "big" in your area. I hunt in S. MS and would let him walk one more year. I saw a very similar rack last year late in the season and let him walk but I am having second thoughts now that I haven't seen any horns yet this year!!

If you have a large piece of land, you could let him walk and hope he hangs around. If you hunt smaller property (less than 100 acres) and your neighbors hunt as well, you might as well go ahead and take him.

Different deer. Give both another year and supplement with high protein to help the antler mass this offseason.

The first one looks 2 1/2. The second looks 3 1/2. The first is going to get bigger but I'd take the second. They aren't he same deer cuz the first one is a solid 6 with brow tines.
The second looks like a small 8 w/ browtines

Edit: they may both be 2 1/2

you need a remote weapon detonator in case a dog comes up

Not the same deer and both are < 3 yrs old. They will definitely be bigger next year. I killed a six point very similar to that on Dec. 9th. I checked the teeth and they were still in good shape and white so probably 2 to 2-1/2 yr old deer.

Look where the leg meets the body. This region is still squared off which makes me think these are young deer. I say 2-1/2. I would not shoot.

Different deer, one is starting 4s and the other is starting his 3s. Either way they are both pups. You won't have good deer until you and your neighbors start passing these deer up and let them go for 2-3 years.

personally, i wouldn't shoot him. He looks like a 1.5 year old buck with decent potential, let him walk for at least 2 more years.

Different deer (look athe G3). Both young deer that could use another year or two

That coon, on the other hand, is definitely a shooter and needs to be culled

They'll both get bigger. With that said, I'd drop both of them

All comes down to location. In bayou blue I would have a hard time letting them walk. On our old marsh lease they would have been safe. Now that i have drawn blood I may let them walk in Bayou Blue as well but that is a big if

Its hard to let anything that forks walk where we're at in Gheens because some people shoot everything

Only reason I shot that spike Saturday was because I missed a doe 4 days before and was pissed

I am really anxious to see how many of these bucks I have on film make it back to the camera next year. That will give me an indication of the hunting pressure we have and what can be expected there. I have owned the property since 2004 but this is the first year I have put any effort into hunting there.
