Well I believe it has something to do with that metal being in close quarters makes it oxidize faster. Maybe I'm in the ball park.

Btw I leave my duck gun in the case but it's got a camo finish on it. Plus I use mine for a walking cane, boat paddle, etc. So I expect a little rust
All my nice guns are In a case though.

Leaving it in a case will trap in moisture and cause it to rust faster. Store it in a gun sock or just out in the open.

sorry, i turned in.. Do not leave your gun in a case. It will rust faster, even with a coat of oil on them. I really don't know the scientific explanation, but, just trust me. Something about the ventilation probably. Better to lean them in a dry closet, if you don't have a gun cabinet or safe.. It's ok to cover them with a sheet, blanket, or as others have said, a gun sock seems to work ok.. I think air has to be able to get to it,,, which is EXACTLY OPPOSITE from what I would have thought..
