proven how? i've never heard of a dr doing this?

pressure in an ear canal just seems dangerous.

Like I said, I saw it done when I worked at a summer camp in the infirmary. I do believe we are talking about two different methods. Yes, they are similar, but this is far from a spa treatment.

Perhaps. What I'm talking about wouldn't be done by any medical professional.

I didn't realize there was a spa treatment kind of deal until I saw the link provided. My only experience with it was at the camp, by an RN.

I want to waterpik my ears. I feel like it would be awesome to hear twice as well.

My doctor uses a Waterpick for cleaning ears so my guess is that it's a safe method.

re: Waterpik to clean out ears

I've had this done before by a doctor.

i'd always get swimmer's ear after swimming.. and sometimes, it wouldn't go away for days/weeks.

i had a doctor check it out and he did the high pressure ear wash thing...
it worked, but as he was doing it, the loudness of the water was nearly unbearable.

afterwards, it felt great.

Yeah, I wonder what the science is behind this. Somebody once told me that you have to use water to really get the wax out of your ears(as q-tips basically just push it back into your ear), but my mother told me that the wax protects your ear from letting water/other debris in.

I don't know what to think. Either way, I would think taking that massive ball out of your ear would help with hearing.

I was told by that same doctor that i was "over-cleaning" my ears with Q-tips... and that ear wax is needed to block stuff from getting stuck in there.

Q-tips take away the ear wax, and what it doesn't take away, it pushes back. Not good.

I know ear wax is good, but if a doctor does it I bet it's ok.

Q-Tips = bad news bears for your ears.

The truth.
Which sucks, because for some reason I'm oddly addicted to using them.
I used to think I was odd, but then multiple other people came to my defense and said they enjoyed them as well.

Yeah I know Q-tips are bad, but I have to use them after a shower.

Unless you are clearly noticing hearing loss, I would highly recommend against clearing out your ear wax, as it is produced for a reason.

This is just like all those bull shite colon cleanse products.

This method is common for treating certain ear infections, including "swimmer's ear." If you try this at home, be sure to have >5% mixture of alcohol in there (no, beer does not count). Some doctors even use some hydrogen peroxide in there.

Do not do this just for fun.

If you have an ear infection, this is probably one of the most painful experiences of your life.

re: Waterpik to clean out ears

There's a much safer way...

Hydrogen Peroxide or alchohol in ear for a few minutes....flush with warm water using giant syringe thing....repeat.

and you're right....if you've never had your ears cleaned you will be disgusted.

ETA: The only time you should do this is if you're having difficulty hearing....if one of your ears gets clogged.
