I never never never pull for teams who directly recruit against LSU.

For me, it's just regional/conference pride. When I was growing up, I would fight daily with my brothers, but if someone else messed with one of my brothers, I'd always have my brother's back.

I grew up hating Ole Miss. Then I moved outside the state and I soon realized that Notre Dame, Texas, and Miami... were just as much our competitors as Ole Miss.

If the the rest of the teams in the SEC are dogs, it weakens our strength of schedule. If Auburn win the BCS Championship, it keeps the SEC streak going.
Go SEC!

Because this conference, like all other conferences, is a support system. Meaning, if you didn't have these other teams, where would LSU be? In Tiger Stadium playing...uh, no one? Well, that sounds like a lot of fun. So I will support LSU first, I will support the SEC, the teams of the SEC and hope the SEC continues to be dominant.

The SEC pride movement can be attributed in large part to the conference being regulated to second tier status for years behind the media darlings Big-10 and Pac-10. The us against them mentality is understandable to a degree but pulling for teams who are vying for the same recruit as LSU is plain silly IMO.

Yes.

However, as long as the SEC is holding serve in the BCSCG, LSU has a good chance to beat the national champions in any given year.

As long as you figure your team isn't going to win the NC every year, you may as well hope that the teams on your schedule are perceived to be strong, so when you do beat them, your team is perceived as strong.

I think the question has been answered, but a good analogy is lawncare. Clearly you want the best looking landscaping in the neighborhood but would you rather have it in an affluent neighborhood or in the hood/trailer park?

Just remember that your neighbor's awesome flowerbeds helps YOUR property value as well.

And when a highly touted Louisiana kid picks another SEC school because of winning/or championship the fans will be outraged and blame the kid.

Except you're competing with your neighbors for a limited number of prized flowers. Their success could negatively affect your garden in the coming years.

I think thus idea I oversold. It's not about championships. It's about perception.

I guarantee you that even if Auburn wins the national title game, we still bag a better class in 11 than they do. Why? We're an elite program...there a good program but not elite.

At one time I would have agreed with you. But we live in an age of instant information, valid information, and perception isn't the factor it once was. Just ask Notre Dame.

No doubt that it's not what it was and kids get information a lot faster, but I think that "idea" takes a while to go away. ND had been mediocre for what, 5 years but the media keeps pimping them like they're a top 25 team. That "elite" tag takes a while to fall off. Even today.

If it is one SEC school against another, it might substantially help with BCS rankings and bowl appearances.

Dude, I said this in 06 when Florida made it and everyone got made at me. I don't pull for other SEC schools. I don't give a shite about conference power and sticking with your conference. I am for LSU and LSU alone. Fuk the rest of the conference.

But did you feel this way in 2007 when we went to the ship with two SEC losses? particularly when USC got snubbed with one pac10 loss?
