Yea whatever happened with that? I heard they were under investigation for insurance fraud. Is this true?

Yep. I think it was where Serranos is now.
They had the neat system of the red phones at the table for you to call in and place your order. I don't know why that never caught on anywhere else.

yeah yeah yeah .. that's right .. what was that place ?? an old chain or local ? i remember dad taking us for burgers after LSU basketball games ... had a damn good cheeseburger and those fat, monster steak fries ...

Yep. That's the one. They had pretty good burgers. All kinds of toppings. I didn't have a particular favorite, but I remember it was all good. I've always been partial to steak fries.

Name another local chef close to BR.
There isn't any. They are all in NOLA. If NOLA can have numerous "local" restaurants, can't BR just have 1?
They're in NOLA because it's a tourist destination for one thing: food. People always bitch about BR but it's a mid size city with decent food that doesn't have a ton of local joints because it doesn't have tourists like NOLA does. Look at Mobile for example. It's very similar to BR yet BR has far superior food.
We always compare to NOLA because it's close but it's not exactly the best example.

If you consider The Caterie's kitchen akin to home cooking...I feel sorry for you babuh

All we have in the way of southern food is Mike Anderson's and thats just more of a seafood restaurant. There is also Louisiana Lagniappe, but i wasn't impressed there.
How can you say there aren't that many Southern places? What constitutes "Southern" to y'all?
Considering "southern" seafood, bbq, sandwiches, poboys, Louisiana dishes and others, here are locally owned ones off the top of my head (no order)
BBQ: Couyons, VooDoo, Jay's, Corky's
General (La specialties, poboys, seafood etc.): Chelseas, Chimes, Parrains, Mike Andersons, Louisiana Lagniappe, Little Village (some seafood), Walk On's, Georges, Opies, Mason's, Don's, ACME, Mansurs, Juban's, Zeeland Street, Poboy Express, Copelands, Crawfords Two, Capital City Grill, City Cafe, Tony's Seafood market, Heads and Tails, Sammy's, Boutin's ....
Pizza: Oscar's, Pastime,
Sushi: a lot of local places incorporate crawfish, fried oysters, etc. into dishes (Drunken Fish and Wahada have my favorites)
And, there was a huge influx of pizza places in BR recently too.
quote:
This passion for pizza spurred at least four new restaurants catering to that demand to open within the last nine months, with more on the way.

Burgersmith has about 8 items on their menu. It's not necessarily upscale. It's more like Raising Cane's if Todd Graves were to chose burgers instead of chicken. Small menu and make what you serve taste really great.
