They have to pay a copyright fee from the school. I coach at Starkvill HS in MS and we have the Yellowjacket uniform of Ga. Tech and pay a fee.

I don't see why someone would pay for such a terrible looking mascot. I would have paid for the helmet logo before that one.

Several high schools use college or NFL logos.
East Ascension uses Michigan State's Spartan
There a quite a few more I can't think of right now.

I guess it just surprised me. When I graduated highschool way back in 19 and 91, I don't remember seeing that kind of thing.
Plus, like the poster above said...who would pay for Toonces?

Thanks for the link Dallas Tiger. It actually has a GT reference which was mentioned above.

That's why Georgia Tech allows teams to use its popular Buzz bee logo. And that's why SMU isn't going to stop Richardson Pearce and Sachse from using a very similar mustang logo. Brad Sutton, SMU's assistant athletic director for media relations, said a few schools request to use the Mustangs' logo each year. They are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Georgia Tech tries to keep track of which high schools use its logo, but that's difficult.
"We want to know about it and we want to document it, but we don't want to deny anyone the chance to use it," said Wayne Hogan, Georgia Tech's associate director of athletics for public relations. "The ones that don't tell us, they don't do it out of maliciousness. I think they just don't know."

What about the story they were talking about... I find that to be some bs.

St. Thomas more was sued by Penn state and has to tear up its field turf and replace the logo.

"academic credit for playing football?"what!
Posted on 11/11/10 at 8:14 pm to beco
Well, though Lutcher is obviously patterned on LSU, it's not an exact replica since the letters are LHS and the animal is a bulldog not a tiger.
Plus, Lutcher actually wears purple for home games while LSU likes the white unis.

This is the biggest shocker to me! And it said if got kicked off he might fall short of credits to graduate on time. I never heard of getting academic credit for playing a sport, is this a Mississippi thing?
